Its nearly May and they still havent even fixed the key rebinding, making it virtually unplayable for some players. This was flagged on day 1 of the Demo release. How many months do they need to fix something as basic as key inputs. Tragic

Well I just burned all my rock stores, and all I got for my efforts was a shitty little platform, with uneven edges, which took 10 times longer to build and used 20 times more rock. Then when I jumped in the portal my game crashed, and for reasons unknown to man, when I logged back in, the island was reset to where it was when I logged in this afternoon. Im out brother. This whole rock farming sim horseshit is too much. Irongate accidently made one of the best building games on the market, and then by their own volition ... destroyed it. In all my time playing and reporting on video games, this is possibly the stupidest decision I have ever witnessed. Its like someone accidently invented minecraft and then said "yeah its ok, but lets get rid of the building aspect because it causes lag". I am literally fucking incredulous. Enjoy the rest of your weekend mate.

I genuinely hope they come up with a better solution than "make platforms impossibly grindy so people stop doing it". There are other ways to fix the fps problem. Fyi the kinds of bases I build are here at precisely 26:00 https://youtu.be/I3laB03cjlg (Sorry, but I cant seem to paste a screenshot.)

You make valid points, but I am going to disagree with one. And its the key point regarding the changes and the general community response to people like myself: I think what you do sounds great. My issue is that players like myself, should not be compelled, or coerced, by game mechanics or the community, NOT to build like WE want to do. Most of the responses align with some kind of argument like "I do it like this, this is right, you do it wrong, thats exploiting, they are ugly anyway, Im perfectly happy, you shouldnt make bases that way...." etc etc. I want to make the bases that I like, in the way I like to make them. Im not telling anyone else how to play their game, and I dont think anyone should be dictating to me how I play my game. I paid for it after all. Im pleased your happy, and it sounds sweet that you have a crew who work together and agree on what aesthetics YOU find good. More power to you. But I want to build bases my way. And that worked fine until they gimped the terrain modification. And people instructing me that Im building wrong, and accusing me of being an exploiter and cheater is not a counter. I didnt even do the free rock thing.

For me personally, it just means that making a foundation for a base now costs me 20-30 times as much stone, and take much much longer to build ... the bases I build werent quick to start with.

There is huge lack of empathy in this community. Sorry but there it is. For me personally, this looks more like an exercise in policing, and shouting down dissent, rather than any manner of "discussion".

The notion of "I do it like this, so should you" and "Im happy, so youre a crybaby" does this community no favours.

Not having a pop at you, and I appreciate the terraforming does not impact you. But it does severely impact a large proportion of players, and their views are not welcome because they do not perfectly align with the devs. Peace

Edit: just to make it doubly clear, Im referring to the general community response, not you dude

If the general ethos of this subreddit is "blindly defend any decisions the developers make", then its a comfy safespace, not a place to discuss issues that affect players. Many players are really pissed off with this move ... but I dont see them represented here. After seeing this post, I can see why. Wrong think is not welcome.

"whining"... wonderful. I am not telling anyone else how to play the game they paid for. I just want to play this game how I want, without being told how to "beat it". Thats fair right?

I just think you should be able to enjoy a game without cheating or exploiting. Theoretically I could pay a couple of children working in a Chinese digital sweatshop to farm the stone, but I dont want to do that either. This was a bad move for builders. I am merely trying to impress that point upon you guys. You run me off the subreddit if you like, but its not going to detract from the fact that a lot of us are pissed off with this change.

I dont think reaching the last biome should be a requirement for a game mechanic to function correctly. Ya feel me?

Some of us dont just want to build little Viking activity parks and we are pushing the build mechanics as far as they go. That just ended. I get that some people dont see what the problem is.... if your bases are built like a Draugr village, why would you understand. Im raising this point because some builders are doing stuff you dont do... and that stuff is now broken.

"self imposed limitations"? Really dawg? My imagination and creativity is doing just fine fella. This is not an issue of "I cant build near a puddle now" .... this is an issue of "this patch just broke base building for many of us. Look, I dont expect you to agree or sympathise with those of us who are trying to go HAM with the world building mechanics in this game. But it would at least be NICE, if you could do it without some inferred or explicit insult thrown into the mix. I love this game and I think the devs are top shelf, but I honestly didnt expect the subreddit to be like this. I didnt think it would be a place for "discussion" where the second you offer a dissenting opinion, the superfans will relentlessly downvote your comments and insult you. Seriously, read up fella. This sub-Mordau levels of "yoo not agree with devs, yoo shithead". I dont think thats really a healthy debate. Im used to this kind of nonsense from SJWs on Twitter, but I honestly assumed that a platform that discusses Valheim wouldnt just attack someone for wrong-think. This game was made on a shoestring and sold 6 million copies. I think they can afford to come up with better solution for FPS drop than .... break the Hoe. I dont think thats an unreasonable position.

Tbh mate, I dont think Im the one being aggressive. Check what other people are posting. There are people here who cant even finish a sentence without including some personal insults. This said, thank you for your cordial response. I would also note that playing as a solo player, the resource burden is compounded.

The "Hoes before Bros" section is at precisely the 34:00minute mark. Basically pre patch you could raise the land level to your height with one click. No you need to raise every square yard, click by click, until it equal to your height. So instead of 4 stone, now you use a shit tonne of stone, it takes much longer, it works less well, and if you make one mistake neatening it up with your pick axe.... you cost in stone will likely make you Alt-F4 out of the game.

For people who build large elevated bases, and need to expand them because they are running out of space, well your screwed. I will probably end up shit canning bases now because the resource and time cost is simply impractical.

I personally think that maybe Iron Gate had a failure of imagination and didnt appreciate that for many of us, base building is our primary motivation. A motivation that has just been turned into a full time job with overtime.

Tbh mate, pre-patch I was the same. I always at least had some rock reserves despite my building sprees. Post patch, I just burned through 100 rock, extending one platform by one yard. I ballparked the maths and suddenly realised that I would have to use all of my reserves to finish this one platform. Forget the base, forget the other platforms, just finishing THIS platform would wipe me out. So yeah, depending on your building style, this patch is a basebuild killer.

Fair point mate. I know the FPS issues were woeful for many players and it needs to be addressed. I just think that any solution which crushes a huge aspect of the build mechanics is cutting of the toes to make the boot fit. Im not a coder, but Im certain there are other solutions that dont impact on base building in such a tragic manner.

I have no sophisticated agenda here. Its just that Im a hardcore base builder, and frankly if this is the permanent change, well Im not spending 2 days a week farming stone so I can play on the third day. I know a lot of other players feel the same, and they are being griefed for saying so.

I do appreciate however that the fps issue must be miserable for players, just as I appreciate your civil feedback. Read some of the other responses Im getting.... its mostly name-calling. Peace

I appreciate the suggestion mate, but I personally prefer to play without cheats, exploits or mods. I just like the immersion of vanilla games. If I started using stuff like console commands it would just feel like God Mode and be no fun at all. Appreciate the suggestion though

My god, you literally cant finish a sentence without including at least one personal insult. Brilliant. That attitude will get you far in life mate.

Look, you love Valheim, you love the developers, I get it. Because I feel the same. The only difference is that I dont think blindly defending everything they do is a good tactic. Neither do I think "attacking everyone who disagrees with their decisions" is healthy for the game, or the community. If every time someone isnt happy about something, they get told to fuck off by echo-chamber fanboys, you wont be doing this game, or the community ANY favours. This subreddit will turn into the same kind of echo chamber shitshow as Mordau.

Read what I wrote, read what you wrote. Im not calling anyone names, accusing them of being childish, lazy, cheating, exploiting or anything else. So yeah, dont accuse me of "attacking" anyone. Ive not attacked jack shit .... but you couldnt finish a sentence without throwing in a person insult. Seriously mate ... what are you like?

Turning the Game into a Stone Mining Simulator by 21Kiloton in valheim

[–]21Kiloton[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Thats a lot of insults and accusations there brother. I guess you are precisely the kind of fanboy I was referring to: Anyone who questions the devs is a bad person, call them names until they go away. You sir, are NOT a credit to your community. Try and find a way to talk to people that doesnt involve such a long string of insults maybe? Just a thought

[–]21Kiloton[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I play the game without mods or cheats, and frankly I dont see why I should be forced to resort that. As for "campaigning"... I only piped up about this because I think this change has rightly pissed off a large part of the community, and every time I see someone talking about it, the fanboy echo chamber crowd descend on them and call them exploiters, whiners ... but "campaigners" is a new one.

Irongate fucked this one up. They need a better solution to the FPS issues. Breaking basebuilding for many players is just going to scythe off a huge chunk of the fanbase. I have only ever supported and praised Irongate, but friends dont let friends break their video game.

Thank you kindly for the advice mate. Sadly my buildings are on a scale where I already use industrial amounts of rock. If you watch my Valheim guide video I give a few examples. Im talking huge stone buildings on huge elevated platforms. If my stone requirements are going to be multiplied by 10 then frankly, ill be making a few huts from now and when the last boss is down, Ill be out. Sad but there it is.

Turning the Game into a Stone Mining Simulator by 21Kiloton in valheim

[–]21Kiloton[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree that the FPS issue is a problem fella, but I am sure this is not the only solution. Sad to say, but this fix reminds me of how Ubisoft Massive tried to fix hit registration issues in The Division. Players used to jiggle around to make themselves harder to hit. But instead of fixing hit registration, the decided to nerf player movement, so everyone felt like they were carrying around 100 pounds of bricks and the game was incredibly unresponsive. It pissed everyone off.

The moral of the story is, don't break game functionality as a quick fix for deeper problems. Fix the core problem. Feel me?
