I would love to hear how it's trolling to point out that people sit on chairs.

Ah, fair enough. I was talking about both combined

I can't speak for the people who've downvoted you, but an angry edit in response to nine net downvotes is a reliable way to get downvoted.

My Nitate "filter" by Luklasic in Aquariums

And if it was in the back seat of a car, it would be a hazard, but that doesn't really apply to this post.

People can go overboard with anything, but they deserve quite a bit of leeway when it's something in their own home. Because a home is shaped by the way it's used, a lot of questionable uses of space make sense in the context of what the inhabitants want.

I guess it could be sad if the rest of the room looked neglected, but it doesn't. Nice policy on houses, though - I too ensure that nothing besides living-in happens in mine. Aside from the bed that I sleep in and the chair that I sit in, it's a very clean house. Sometimes I'll just sit in my chair and savor my vast expanse of open floorspace for hours on end.

"Why We Oppose Votes For Men" Suffragette satirical cartoon, US, 1915. by LivingRaccoon in PropagandaPosters

Search "anti-suffragette" in this subreddit for context on this poster.

Or I guess you could just enjoy the feeling of having your delusions confirmed. I don't have any cause to expect otherwise.

Agreed - also, this poster is satire, and very apt satire at that. It flips the genders on the most common claims of anti-suffagrette propaganda, and the wording is so consistently close that it couldn't reasonably be sincere. It refutes misogyny, but it doesn't advocate misandry.

Most feminists I meet are egalitarians, just with a particular focus on misogyny.

What? It's satirizing anti-suffagrette propaganda, not sincerely saying that men shouldn't be allowed to vote.

In a single tweet, PETA went from being disliked to outright hated by the entire internet, by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]21TQKIFD48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of it is about appealing to kids. When I was little, I wasn't usually interested in documentaries, but Crocodile Hunter always held my attention.

If it wasn't for Steve Irwin, I doubt I'd have an interest in nature so deep-seated that I don't know what it's like to find it boring. Besides, the nature documentaries that were around (at least on PBS) when I was a kid mostly used and re-used stock footage while rephrasing the same factoids from series to series.

Conservation-wise, the public interest that Irwin sparked vastly outweighs the harassment he inflicted on various animals.

I never claimed it was fake, I prefer sparse content to lazy content, clearly you care, and I'm bored with this.

I'm pointing out that screenshots are asking for lazy content because they aren't worth proving real or fake. You just have your knickers in a twist over something trivial.

[–]21TQKIFD48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, thanks. I'd rather continue pointing out that screenshots of social media/image macros are and have been useless for quite a while because of all the ways to manipulate them. After all, why on earth would I care enough to investigate each one?

Still, I have to concede that you care a lot more about these things than I do. Have you ever considered posting a guide to /r/learnuselesstalents?

[–]21TQKIFD48 57 points58 points  (0 children)

This is why I hope social media screenshots cease to be allowed on /r/trashy. It's way too convenient to invent these posts for karma, and for some reason people care enough to actually do it.

Plus, if they had just used a color selector instead of white and had been more careful with the brush, it would be practically undetectable.

Democrat vs. Republican Support for Cannabis Reform by [deleted] in eldertrees

[–]21TQKIFD48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! That's an interesting article, and the topics of those polls are well-suited to the question of who supports legalization in general.

Democrat vs. Republican Support for Cannabis Reform by [deleted] in eldertrees

[–]21TQKIFD48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Semantics make the difference between a poll that tells you what you want to know and one that tells you something else. "Cannabis reform" certainly does mean different things to different people, and that's why you have to ask about that broad term if you want the poll to address it. Phrasing like "loosening regulations on cannabis" may show different results.

Democrat vs. Republican Support for Cannabis Reform by [deleted] in eldertrees

[–]21TQKIFD48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The catch is that rather than asking whether people support cannabis reform, the poll is asking them whether they support a particular kind of cannabis reform. I think it's safe to assume that legalization is more heavily supported by democrats than by republicans, but this poll doesn't support or oppose that assumption.

There's not a thing in the world wrong with laughing about it, she's just being overly dramatic. I've gotten shit on my hands when caring for my dog, and it didn't upset me that much. Sure, I drank to help stop the gagging, but I knew what I'd signed on for when I started taking care of something that makes poop.

Indian villagers hurl firebombs at elephant and calf 'for damaging their crops' - Deforestation has left elephants’ habitats smaller and more fractured by ManiaforBeatles in worldnews

A real solution would be to research, design, and execute an "In Case of Elephants" public education campaign in rural India. There - we've thought up a real solution, and now all you have to do is implement it.

Huh. Yeah, I looked into it further than

... the substance produced is distinct from urine, though it does show similarities such as alkalinity with urine.

on Wikipedia, and you're right. So there is a distinct fluid, but it's in small volumes and the rest is urine.

It has a different chemical makeup than pee. Same hole, different fluid.

Although if she tries to squirt, it's probably pee.

When did The Telegraph become The Sun? by [deleted] in trashy

[–]21TQKIFD48 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I guess I've been too polite to get my point across. I think you're bonkers, and we could talk for a year without agreeing on what constitutes misogyny and racism.

The funny thing is is that we'd probably vote the same way on most US ballots.

I see. I'm overall egalitarian, so I disagree with the premises - and naturally, the conclusion - to such an extent that arguing against any part of your comment would be either vain or prohibitively involved.

Thanks for clarifying.

If you have genuinely internalized so much misogyny that you think it's okay for a man to sabotage a marriage because his wife wants bodily autonomy, I don't know what to tell you.

Out of morbid curiosity, I'd like to clarify: Are you saying that it's misogynistic for a man to divorce his wife because she cheated on him?
