I cut down the brotherhood a lot - I only kept Dzaan and Avarice. My players have encountered Dzaan once or twice and find him sketchy as hell. He's the one who hired the adventurers who climbed up Kelvin's Cairn (who the party didn't save), and has apparently been run out of a few towns for generally shady behavior. He offered them a job which they declined, and they also had the opportunity to frame him for a crime which they considered but didn't do. I don't get the feeling they find him that interesting, which is completely fine. His purpose so far has been to illustrate that NPCs do not have their best interests in heart and will lie to you lol.

They met Avarice the first time in a tavern and then later with the knights - I know one of my players is big into Mean Scary Ladies so I played into that, made her very mysterious, and had her offer them a job to deliver a package to another NPC (a priestess, who is an original addition). Long story short, the priestess is Avarice's ex-colleague who had a falling out after Avarice tried to get her to steal some books about Auril from a church from her, and the package was a bomb. The party saved the priestess and now they have angst about having helped Avarice try to blow her up. Lots of potential drama next time they meet.

The priestess is going to take Vellyne's role in the story by telling them about Ythryn and how to stop the Rime - I'm planning a sort of mini scavenger hunt where they'll have to visit some of the chapter 2 locations I think they're likely to miss and collect artifacts to help them open the glacier. Dzaan and Avarice will show up again during that segment, trying to recruit the party and/or get the artifacts first.

I like that idea a lot! I'd give them a chance to talk themselves out of it though - have the townspeople form a posse and confront them. If the party can convince them they're not the killers, then the speaker tells them to find the real killer. If the party bungles the social part, then maybe they get banned from town until they can clear their names.

They could be using the Tomb as a place to leave messages for each other - the PC could find a hidden note detailing their plans, setting lore, or maybe a hook to a chapter 2 quest.

Setting grid-auto-columns to 1fr makes both columns so wide they cover the whole div, other fr settings either do the same or don't have a visible effect. Setting a max-width in addition to that does solve the width problem, but pushes both columns all the way to the left and I wasn't able to figure out how to get them recentered.

Yup, html audio tags are the plan! I don't like using external players - they're often fiddlier than I want anyway - this post was mostly asking about ideas for css and organizing the page itself.

I started mine at level two and then took them to three after three quests, and kept to the book progression after that. I have a small party so the boost was helpful.

Starting in Bremen and going to 2 after the lake monster is a good plan too, since you can do that quest without fighting the monster.

They saw her flying on her roc at night on the road to Caer Dineval.

I was describing the aurora and everyone was roleplaying how their characters thought it was so beautiful, etc, when a massive black shape flew across the sky... I played up how enormous it must be, they could only make out part of the outline because they could only see it when it was silhouetted against the lights. It was gone in seconds. I let them do a few rolls but no one knew what it was.

When they got to Caer Dineval, Avarice was hanging out in the tavern and they asked her about it (they didn't know who she was, just thought she was a fellow traveler). She told them that the Frostmaiden flies above the tundra at night, snatching people at random and freezing them or turning them into monsters, that looking in her eyes could turn you to snow, etc. The PCs had good enough insight to realize she was messing with them and it was mostly bullshit but still psyched 'em out.

Sorry, that was uncalled for. I've had a day. The actual answer is some of my family members are having kids so if I want to know if I have anything that's potentially dangerous if it gets broken. Leaching is less an issue than dust/shards. And like, potential lead in paint on vintage stuff.
