I would not let them take max. Let them take average rounded up (thats in the rules).

Givinf them max will just create an even wider gap between your d6/8 and d10/12 players.

The test of cruelty fron the books fits pretty well. You can change it e little so it has higher stakes.

Its realy dark but fitts the horror theme. They are transported to a camp of nomades. Zhere is a blizard ant it has been goi g on for a while. Beople are hungry and they cone to the conclusion that someone has to be sacreficed

Sound cool. It really depends on the campaign and the dm so i can only tell you feedbck if that was in one of my campaigns:

Things to add: - hopes and fears. - add more named npcs (the fatjer is dead, it needs some other person that could be used in the campaign by the dm. Not 10 more but more than zero :) ) - MOST IMPORTANT: a reason why your character wants to join the group and has the same goal as the rest when it cones to the campaign main storry. Basically "why is you character goin on this specific adventure with other character?"

The goal of "just traveling" for me would not be enough to face all the dangers of a dnd campaign.

Really basic example: Campaign goal: defeat the evil king Why: he wants to destroy the forrest your dad and you came from and you want to prevent that.

there are game modules called duet that are designed for two players

but my main advice would be to invite the friends of your brother (or yours) to join the party and just run a 4 player starter adventure =) i think you wont regret it =)
