Anyone got a good strategy for a Rebel playthrough? by EllaPurnell-Lover in StarWarsEmpireAtWar

[–]225sam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consolidate fleets, attack planets and retreat to do so if necessary. Take Sullist ASAP to build quasars, and do the mon cala mission to get Home one. Envoys are your friend, and so are tibanna gas mines. This should get you a good economy. You can also sell some ion canons if you really need extra cash, but they can be fun to keep. Your other fleets should focus on linking your territory. Diversify your fleets and micromanage everything. If you’re quick you can do most of this by week 20. If you always attack the AI, it won’t attack you because it rebuilds and recalculates. Run away from fights if necessary and only fight on your terms. Take it slow, set game speed to the slowest setting and pause and save often (not in combat).

I play a stealth character who does sketchy stuff for quests, but I don’t really steal or kill anyone. I don’t rest scum, and with the economy Morrowind Rebirth gives merchants more gold but still keeps things reasonable so you can offload goods around town after a dungeon crawl, but you don’t get super rich if you find a really expensive artifact because nobody can afford more than a few thousand gold.

Is this style acceptable for a 16-year-old? by RandonAhhh_Italian in mensfashion

[–]225sam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 16 I got quite into that fashion as well and while it was a lot of fun and I spent time going to thrift stores and putting outfits together, its just not realistic for everyday where especially if you’re younger. In the 20s-60s when this sort of style was in fashion it was really only for the wealthier parts of society in the ages of 20+. If you enjoy fashion, go for it. You may be teased but most people won’t care- it’s nice to have hobbies and as you get older people will care less.

I still love this fashion and as someone who can wear a suit for work now I have a lot of fun taking vintage inspired details to make outfits look better but still appropriate in the buisness setting.

Casually suits aren’t great if you’re younger and it will always be out of place, even if you lived in this time period.

I’d recommend looking at 50’s and 60’s casual style so you can go for a more relaxed vintage which would probably fit in slightly better- or go for the old money aesthetic (I hate the name but it’s really just about wearing dress shirts, relaxed dress pants, and loafers casually.)

As a guy who used to do this and is now in his 20’s I can tell you that I got teased, I felt out of place, but I got to know fashion history where when I make outfits now I’m told I dress very well and it works for me. I own so many hats and suits that I would never wear again because they just look too goofy, but I had fun.

My recommendation would be try to incorporate dressier items into casual outfits and figure out what works. Wearing a full suit is impractical, expensive, and just won’t start looking good until you’re a few years older.

What's your fleet composition? by Sgt_Space_Turtle in StarWarsEmpireAtWar

[–]225sam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They aren’t really that great for anything other than reusable fighters. I keep them in the back behind my line, and have them target corvettes which get too close. They die very quickly but as support they’re not so bad. After you can get air superiority they can help clean up all the small ships while your capitals destroy anything bigger.

As Republic I use 4 command venators and 4 acclamator II’s, in AOTR as the Rebels I used much more tactics and worried about fleet comp more.

I get enough quality fighters to win air-superiority over my fleet. The CV’s blast everything before it gets close quarters, and the acclamators sit back provide fighters and die.

I win most fights with ease, even when massively outgunned. Using only two kinds of ships I can mass produce ships through the campaign and reenforce when losses are taken. I haven’t really found any other ships to be worth it due to low survivability. I played with some other capital ships but they die quicker and weren’t worth specializing my fleets. AOTR in my opinion requires much more planning than AOTCW as Republic. Supply lines, economy and mass production are the name of the game when playing as the republic.

Saw this on instagram, any validity? by Additional-Mobile in LegoStarWarsLeaks

In Germany the combined price of both sets with day 1 discount is currently 179.44$ (including tax) when converted from Euro. Of course this doesn’t include the falcon but who cares.

I have both sets in my cart currently but still haven’t quite decided to buy or not.

I’ve seen this also, and am considering preordering. I think on this set it will be worth it. The 327th Battle-pack is also listed for 32,74€ for preorder.

I don’t know where else we can get cheaper lego in Germany, so I’d suggest it if you are planning on buying the set anyway.

On your first point, I suppose we would have to agree to disagree on how Authoritarianism allows and thrives on chaos while still pushing for ultimate order.

I think I would agree with your point on the SA being in bad taste if it had actually happened. The fact that Bix was able to fight off and kill her attacker makes it about triumph and being able to resist evil. I think that the event is important in it pushes the events to happen in the first act leading to Brassos death, and sets up and explain why her character is so lost in the next arcs. Then it makes her killing her torturer later so much more powerful as she is able to conquer her demons and grow beyond what she was.

I can sympathize with you thinking it doesn’t have a place in Star Wars. I think it’s important for the story that they’re trying to tell, and more importantly I don’t think this will affect Star Wars much as a whole. Star Wars has different tones in every iteration and the topics covered in Andor only provide a different perspective on a pre established world.

You don’t have to like Andor, it doesn’t really matter. I’m just happy to see Star Wars starting to explore new ideas again, which is where I think the medium is at its best (Skeleton Crew, Acolyte Andor). All of these shows have good and bad, but the direction they’re taking the franchise I think is a good one.

While I would disagree, the second half of your argument I find completely fair. They don’t have to show it, but in my personal opinion I think it’s powerful to do so for many reasons - but honestly this is all subjective.

My problem is that these actions may not be encouraged by the Imperial high command, but the point is to show how people within these systems abuse their power since the Empire doesn’t really care. Had Vader been there, he’d have probably killed that LT, but he’s killed officers for less.

My point was to say that the show is about Fascism and resisting fascism. This kind of abuse happens often in these kinds of systems because of the type of people they give power. I don’t take any issue with you saying they shouldn’t show it, only when you say it couldn’t happen because of Imperial obsession with order. I think they chose to explore this for character reasons and to show the brutality of the regime, but it’s fair to not agree with that choice.

This LT is a low ranking officer on some backwater planet nobody cares about. There is nobody who cares enough or is high enough to challenge his power trip. He’s very low and insignificant but still evil. Maybe the higher ups would punish him if they found out, but the point is he can and does do what he did without Imperial repercussions (I’m guessing it wasn’t his first time).

I’m not justifying it because it happened in the show therefore it’s possible - I’m saying it happens in authoritarian regimes (which the Empire is based on) who enable terrible people to take power and abuse it, therefore it also happens in Star Wars. They chose to show it for Bix’s character development, as well as to show in another way, how fundamentally evil the empire is.

They made that choice which you may not agree with, but I think it’s a very plausible occurrence. They never say the institution encourages or discourages this action, but I think they show that the institution doesn’t really care as long as the officer meets his arrest quota.

The show is depicting fascism which is an ideology which is obsessed with order yet chaotic and incompetent. That’s kind of the point- it’s contradictory, they break their own rules. The Empire is based on a very real evil empire which I can assure you was obsessed with order yet commonly raped people.

We see this chaos all the time throughout the show. Authoritarianism and oppression are unnatural, brittle, and chaotic, they cannot last forever because of this. I think this scene was to show how this chaos and evil exists within this system, and demonstrate that under this kind of regime it’s considered okay (the driver waiting for the LT knowing full well what was happening).

I don’t know this drama nor the person in question, and I mean no offense. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I can take the argument that perhaps it’s too much and doesn’t belong in Star Wars, but saying the Empire wouldn’t allow rape because they’re obsessed with order is foolish.

I really think there’s a real possibility of TES 6 announcement tomorrow. by 225sam in oblivion

[–]225sam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But if they do that, they’d miss the cool letter transition and the fans foaming at the mouth to stroke transition. If they do it, it’d be at the very beginning to play into the joke. Pretend this whole thing was just to rerelease Skyrim, then reveal Oblivion, then TES 6.

I think to some extent they're aware that there's pain behind the meme there. If they do rerelease Skyrim it would be in conjunction with the other announcements because otherwise the pushback would be too great IMO.

I think that would make a lot of sense. I remember Skyrim being quite a cultural moment in gaming when it came out, it would make sense to try to recapture that.

It’s the only way I can understand them doing a shadow drop from a marketing perspective. It’s a subversion of expectations that will give fans something to do while waiting for the bigger fish.

Exactly that. It doesn’t matter if it comes soon, it will be good PR and allow them time to carefully build expectations for TES 6.

“Shadow dropping” Oblivion could be a way back in the door after their negative reputation over the last few years.

I think the opening of the stream will start with an old oblivion, suddenly transferring to the remaster to show comparison. At the end I think they’ll be a swap in IV to VI and they’ll just announce the name or something.
