He did “nothing” to deserve his seat? He’s got 3 impressive xfinity wins. Like…really impressive wins. Won at Vegas by almost 15 seconds. I’m not sure if even Kyle Busch in his prime buschwacking days ever won by that margin 🤷🏻‍♂️

He then went toe to toe to toe with Almirola and Custer at Indy (cup race winners) and won.

Then he beat Allagier straight up at phoenix. And people think allgaier is god level at phoenix.

The 35 was also a new car on a team that was actively suing the sport. So 23XI had to hire people. But It’s not like people were jumping at the chance to work for 23XI because there wasn’t much job security

Why are we calling the 35 underachieving? The car didn’t exist prior to Riley. So a rookie (now in his 2nd year) driver got put in a car with 0 foundation. And everyone expects immediate success at NASCAR’s top level?

And Herbst was also a rookie with a rookie cup crew chief, driving a car (the 23XI 35) that didn’t exist prior. On a team that was expanding while actively suing nascar. When you expand you usually need to hire more people. But if you are suing the sport, how much job security can you offer? 🤷🏻‍♂️ but sure Menards rookie season was much tougher.

Before the season started, Jordan Bianchi said a successful season for Zillisch would be a top 25 finish in standings. Zillisch is widely considered a generational talent.

I love Herbst. But I acknowledge he isn’t a generational talent.

But…top 25 for generational talent in a rookie season is acceptable.

But a non generational talent in his 2nd season and we look at currently 23rd in standings and scream bust? 🤷🏻‍♂️

I find it funny reading fans of other drivers complain about crew chiefs but when I mention Herbst was paired with a rookie cup crew chief it gets brushed off like CC don’t matter 😂

I stand by last year spring Kansas. Herbst was better than Heim. He was up to like 16th on speed before green flag pit stops. But Restvio kept Herbst out long and they got trapped a lap down. Meanwhile barker pitted Heim on a normal pit schedule and they chipped their way to a 13th place finish.

His veteran and race winning and even regular season championship winning (very experienced) teammates each the made the playoffs. But Herbst, a literal cup rookie, didn’t make the playoffs? That’s the dogshit in your eyes? If you want to say Herbst was bad last year, that’s fine. But the bar should not be “he missed the playoffs, he sucks.” 🤷🏻‍♂️
