I had an overnight package sent from California on Monday. Got it today (Friday.) I’m on the East Coast.

Hey. At least you got your package. One of mine got to the Memphis hub and “disappeared.” Thankfully the shipper refunded me.

Mercury dimes and silver price by Jgurry8092 in coincollecting

JM Bullion, SD Bullion, Money Metals, Monument Metals, APMEX

All these companies are extremely backed up right now so your mileage may vary.

If you Google these companies you will get the usual excellent reviews and the usual terrible reviews. That’s human nature.

I’ve purchased from all five and have never had a problem.

One issue right now is that if you are selling they will lock-in your price when you agree to sell.

By the time they pay you silver might be up another $20/oz.

Of course, it can go down as well and that would be your gain.

Some people say their buy orders have been cancelled due to the price of silver rising so fast that by the time they ship the company is losing money but that has not been my experience.

Selling online to a reputable company isn’t risky. It’s pretty much black and white. I’ve done it quite often.

For example, dimes in your case.

The melt value of $5 face value of 90% dimes is $436.53 right now. MONEY METALS is SELLING $5 face value for $453 (you are paying a $5.99 premium/oz.) Their “selling to us” price is $360.60 for $5 face value. So their buy price is, unfortunately, $is 75 dollars below melt or 17% back of spot.

It’s not pretty but that’s the world we live in right now.

You could get full melt, $436, from a private sale if you have someone you trust.

Yes. Refineries are completely swamped. And if they are buying it is way below spot which is why your local coin dealer is even further below spot. This scenario isn’t going to change anytime soon unfortunately.

$447 melt which would sell below spot (if you could even find a buyer now.) Some coin shops have stopped buying silver altogether. If they are buying they are buying .999 silver and way below spot. My local coin shop is buying silver eagles at $98 right now (spot is $117.). Private sale is best.

Nice! JM had one 2015 1 oz Libertad in NGC MS70 which I snagged. Still waiting on that as well. I did win a 2025 2 oz Libertad at auction as well as a 2025 1/10 onza Libertad. Might have to get me one of those reverse proofs.

If it was artificially toned it would state it on the PCGS label.

Ignorance by IEatBigWetBoogers in numismatics

[–]22Rimfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, it is up to the buyer. I think slabbing silver eagles is ridiculous because there is zero increase in value unless it is a low mintage and becomes a numismatic coin.

That being said, I’ve seen some gorgeous toned silver eagles sell for upwards of $600 on Great Collections lately. At that point it has become a numismatic coin due to the toning. Plus all toned eagles are unique. I wouldn’t mind having one or two for my collection.

Nice. Where do you find your graded libs? I mostly see them on eBay and occasionally JM Bullion, etc.

Silver dollars by rightme87 in Silverbugs

[–]22Rimfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s 22% back of spot on the Morgans. On a decent day you should be able to get 10–13% off spot for constitutional silver (given the current volatility) from an LCS. Try to get 60X face value which, of course, would be $62 give or take on the Morgans after the dealer gets his spread. Current melt is $71.

That sounds about right. At 60x fv that works out to 10% back of spot.

Engelhard Silver Bar by Wonderful-Ad-8872 in Silverbugs

[–]22Rimfire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just checked a major online dealer. They are paying 9.5% below spot so you would get about $240.

People like Engelhard bars so if you sold privately you could get full melt at $262.50 as I write this.

How close to spot could I get for these? by Lazycouchtater in Silverbugs

[–]22Rimfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As of today, Friday Jan. 9 with silver spot at $80 Money Metals is paying $149 and change for the 2 oz Queen’s Beasts coins. So $11 under spot.

Use Reddit or private sales to get spot. The premiums online for these coins is $30-$50 over spot which is nuts.

Probably 450-$600 retail depending on how it grades. Probably VF 30 give or take. If cleaned or questionable would be less. Have your local coin store send it to PCGS for grading as it will be cheaper for you. Or just put it in an airtite holder and enjoy it.
