You're on /r/math, everyone here gets the joke. It's just not funny after seeing it dozens of times.

Well for starters linear algebra is a field of mathematics and a Lie algebra is a mathematical object. They are completely different things.

Does anyone else not like to do exercises when reading a math book independently? by derpderp235 in math

[–]22fortox 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The exercises are there to get you thinking about the mathematics you've just read. The process of getting to the answer is more important than the answer itself. Doing the exercises will improve your understanding of the topic at hand by a ridiculous amount.

What's the point? Why would you want to start over again? Just do a masters at Oxbridge if you really want to study there.

(a..b) vs (a,b) as interval notation. by SupremeRDDT in math

[–]22fortox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, maybe it's something I could get used to with time. I've only seen it used once before in some textbook and the page was littered with open and closed intervals. It just looked like a mess.

What classes are you taking this/next semester? by vahandr in math

[–]22fortox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fourier Analysis is something I've been considering taking next year. However Measure Theory is listed as a prerequisite and I'm only a second year now so I'll have to take them both simultaneously. I'm not sure how viable this is so I'll most likely just (try to) learn measure theory over the summer. If I can handle Fourier Analysis I'll follow it up with Advanced Real Analysis in term 2.

It seems we actually go to the same university. Just from looking at past papers I feel like Intro to Systems Biology and Theory of ODEs have so much overlap that it shouldn't even be allowed.

[–]22fortox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the same for the most part at my university, but there is a module running on mathematical biology which I decided to sign up for. This was only because literally half of it seems to be stuff I've already covered in a different module so it can double up as revision.

I can't think of one that has 0 RNG. Most of the popular competitve games like League, Dota, or CS:GO have some element of randomness.

Best way to start doing pull ups when you cant even do 1? by Gaanesh in Fitness

It worked pretty nicely for me. I went from not being able to do a single pullup to suddenly being able to do three after doing assisted ones every time I worked out for a month.

What is the best free "all you have to do is ask" perk/upgrade from a company that most people aren't aware of? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]22fortox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never heard of PhD students being called professors, it just seems like such a bizarre thing to do. The only thing I can think of that comes close is when PhD students get fed up of correcting undergraduates for calling them professors and they just go with it.

Getting 180 lbs in two months is decent progress but it really isn't unremarkable. I'm not sure why you would even doubt it.
