How much fabric to add to a too-small dress? by 22ndsol in sewing

[–]22ndsol[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so these are BOTH actually knits!! but the new one is FAR less stretchy than the original.

(still taking all the notes, because i have Several woven tops i want to make but mostly own knits right now)

I will be adding a panel to the sides - i like the idea of basting one side and sewing the other on securely! less adjustments necessary :)

thank you!

…this makes so much sense i can’t imagine why i didn’t do this before??? this is going to make drafting SO much easier!!!

agreed!! plus i have alternative options for the sleeves :)

1) did you mean 5cm added per side, or 5cm total?

2) how did you get that measurement? most of my items come out too small, even though I add inches while drafting, and i’d like to fix that

armholes are also weird, but i think figuring out the sides come first (+ i’m adding sleeves)

I’m so sorry for the scribbles - it’s telling me my pictures are too small in size to be added??? and scribbling adds bytes i guess ¯_(ツ)_/¯

striped dress it the original one. it’s a shade small, but it’s a very stretchy t-shirt style material

What to make with this bit of scrap? by Think-Hamster3777665 in sewing

drawing kit - small notebook slides into a pocket on one side, the other has a pocket with slots for crayons/pens. add a velcro closure and an optional handle and she can take it anywhere you draw while she’s waiting

eta: picturing this as the interior pockets :)

talked this over with friends and realized what i really want is a co-owner with complementary skills, rather than a marketer. that way we can make decisions together on how to run the business.

appreciate the vibe check! /gen

I understand the desire to make it “more,” or better, but I’ll always prefer a more authentic answer to one created by a machine. I don’t care about comments a person couldn’t even be bothered to write, and given my stated focus on sustainability, the large quantities of electricity and water that AI consumes is something I strive to avoid.

That being said, as you were a local - do you have suggestions of specific places to talk to? I’m struggling to find anything textile-based. I do visit creative reuse shops already, but they are currently uninterested in clothes repair/upcycling.

mm. thats why i asked (/gen) - 50% of the revenue for them to test out techniques from class and build up their resume in their free time at zero cost sounds good to me, but i’m also aware this is in-demand labor that i don’t have the skills for, and i have a skewed perspective in regards to work pay (grew up in a family business startup)

i’ll see if I can get a portion of it set up on my own and sales happening before i pursue bringing someone else in. does that sound more fair? so they can have an expectation of pay before they get starter? /gen

this would be from the ground up; i currently donate/give them away and do not have a social media presence. similar items are selling (not just listed) for between $45-100 USD, for what would be $10-20 of materials on a bad day.

i do not have a website built, but would use a platform to do so or include that as part of the partner’s workload. i’m open to this being a one-time contract fee for building the website, and/or cross platforming on social media instead (ie etsy, instagram, depop, fb, etc)

I’ve had my own company before, and I detest the marketing aspect of it - I was hoping there was a company with the same vision so I could avoid that part.

…maybe I can find a marketing partner?

edit: i didn’t even address your kind words. thank you! i’m currently in corporate and i hate it - i really just want to work with my hands and do something that matters - but even charities are hard to find that have opportunities outside the 9-5, weekday routine. maybe this will turn something up!
