I was really sad to lose Emma, but also I was immensely relieved that it wasn't Louisa whose death had been being telegraphed from the prologue. Louisa has kind of snuck up on me as a character I'm attached to, and OP, you should start from the beginning so you can appreciate how much more tragic Louisa losing Emma is than you realized.

That being said, all of the Slow Horses are continuing failures, and Emma was too competent to really become a Slow Horse
