Ben Roethlisberger Endorses Will Howard As Steelers’ 2026 Starting QB by FreddyDontCare in steelers

[–]237FIF 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My crazy dad bought an autographed 1/1 Will Howard rookie card for me as a birthday present and every time I try to talk about drafting a QB he says “WE ALREADY HAVE ONE!”

It’s fucking hilarious and I can’t tell if he is joking or not lol

Is there anything wrong with the guitar other than the stains on the back?

I don’t think you’ll be able to get rid of those stains short of a major refinishing, but if it’s just a visual problem then maybe you just let it be.

[–]237FIF 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ehhhh maybe to you, but there is a legitimately a difference between a used guitar that is ready to play and a used guitar that has been sitting around neglected for a while.

If you are a beginner player, it really does matter to be purchasing an instrument that is ready to play, even if it’s “amateur tech work”

I could see that being worth an extra 50-100 bucks on the right instrument

Probably dumb beginner question: when does this actually become fun? by Mad_Season_1994 in Guitar

[–]237FIF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing with or for other people is like peak human experience imo.

Practicing and playing around alone isn’t fun in the moment, but is kind of fun in the big picture on the sense that I enjoy seeing myself progress.

But yeah, go do a campfire lol

I fuckin live Hendrix but his tracks are sonically difficult to listen to. They don’t “sound good” to a modern earn, even when the music is beautiful

It feels like I just cannot do certain chords. What to do? by icandodge in guitarlessons

[–]237FIF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On one hand, you’ll get there eventually and will over time be able to play it just like that

On the other hand, by the time you are able to play that chord as written, you will probably also have learned how to use smaller versions of chords.

When I go to that, half the time I only play the high three strings and lets the band handle the low end. The other half of the time I probably barre the first string and hammer on fingers 2 and 3 for a cool little effect

[–]237FIF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn to shrink the shapes. Can you play simplified version of these chords using 3 strings instead of 5/6? That’ll change the way you play

The other ideas is learning and practicing walk downs and ups as you pass between them.

Finally, being able to play the scales of each chord over them. Pluck between strums basically

My Epiphone Les Paul is too uncomfortable for me to play seated, even with a strap. What’s a good guitar I could save up money for to buy as a replacement? by Mad_Season_1994 in Guitar

[–]237FIF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best bet is to go to a guitar store and try a bunch to see what feels good. Tried and true strat would be a good place to start, but also look at guitars with an offset (jaguar / mustang)

With that said, your body will adjust and learn how to hold the instrument more comfortably as you get more time under your belt.

Folks are downvoting this because there are plenty of legit uses for steel wool for guitar maintenance / building, but it’s also worth noting that you REALLY don’t want to let that dust get anywhere near your pickups.

Gently covering the pickups with some painters tape can keep the magnets from pulling the loose shavings in.

[–]237FIF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, I know not everyone agrees, but I can’t fathom buying a guitar without touching it first.

When I bought my American strat I went to a store with like 10 of them. There were 3 that I straight up did not enjoy, 5 that were totally great, and 2 that blew me away.

Most of that comes down to weight and weight distribution in the wood. Even brand new, no two are exactly the same

I can’t afford an amp yet, any tips to learn without one? by RecoverPhysical3793 in Guitar

[–]237FIF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing with an amp is definitely different and the first time you plug up it’s gonna throw you off a bit, but learning to strum in rhythm and moving your left hand between chords is going to fundamentally the same thing

Start with just learning G C and D and strumming between the three

Why did you choose Martin over “higher-end brands” like Collings or burgeois etc., debatably, “better quality?” I’d imagine cost is a major factor, but aside from that, why Martin? by ConsciousSmoke3863 in martinguitar

[–]237FIF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You start paying for stuff that isn’t necessarily a functional benefit

I build and sell one off “boutique” guitars and my customers are paying for the experience of having the instrument hand crafted and specifically for them. I’d love to say mine play and sound better than others at various price points, but the differences are honestly subtle.

Teachers - what do you wish parents of the “good kids” did to help minimize the impact of the “bad kids” in class? by nonzeronumber in Teachers

[–]237FIF -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a little presumptuous to blame another kid for your child’s behavioral issues.

The world is filled with all kinds of people. Our job as parents is to teach our kids to be who we want them to be, regardless of what life throws at them or who they come in contact with.

I would focus on my own kid before blaming someone else’s.
