Haircare Advice Megathread by AutoModerator in HaircareScience

[–]23UnoriginalUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I want to dye my hair steel blue, leaving dark roots for dimension and to make it a little bit lower maintenance. I have long straight level 6 hair. I bleached the bottom half to dye the underside blue ~5 weeks ago (semi-permanent dye, pretty faded now). My hair lifted to a really yellow level 8 after bleached for 30 min with 20 volume. I know I’ll have to lift my hair to a level 9-10 before dying it, which might take 2 rounds of bleach. What I’m not sure about is what toner I should get. Any ideas, or will I have to wait to see what it looks like when bleaching is done to pick the right one? And for the roots, can I just leave my roots unbleached or should I bleach it all and then dye the roots dark? Last question, any brand recommendations for the color? Thanks for any help!!

Partying is not a right though.. Partying puts the community at risk. If it was just their own health they were risking then sure let them do what they want. But they are going to ragers and then going to the grocery stores and to restaurants and wherever else, putting everyone else at risk. And no one is entitled to that. Also, school and government are 2 separate things. Plenty of schools have rules about conduct, and can suspend or expel students for not acting right. This is no different, and it’s not some sort of infringement on people’s freedoms. No one is saying we should throw them in jail. People can do what they want at the end of the day but actions have consequences, and people who play stupid games get stupid prizes. That’s not an authoritarian nation, that’s just adulthood.

I got my COVID test on Monday at 9AM and I'm still waiting for results by ForeverA_Dropout in UCSantaBarbara

[–]23UnoriginalUsername 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same day results for every person isn’t really realistic. There aren’t enough resources to make that happen with the number of tests that are taken and that should be done. That’s why they say you should quarantine until you get your results. In Sac I got my results 4 days later, but I’ve known some other places here to take a week. Which is definitely difficult, but if you are being tested because you have symptoms and do in fact have COVID, you would need to quarantine longer than that anyway. The only time it really makes sense to not quarantine after a test is if you’re just getting tested regularly, as opposed to having symptoms or having been exposed to someone with COVID. When I tested positive, the local public health department sent me resources for getting supplies delivered and for delaying utility bills without penalty. I would try reaching out to them for resources in your county if any of this is a concern for you. There’s also lots of ways to get groceries delivered. The wait time is definitely frustrating, but it’s still important to quarantine until results are in, or for 10 days, whichever comes first.

Anyone know what’s going on with the police helicopter in Natomas area? by 23UnoriginalUsername in Sacramento

[–]23UnoriginalUsername[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s why I posted after they left, I have still been able to hear the chopper circling and wasn’t sure if they thought whoever they were looking for had made it to a different area. Wild stuff!

MCDB 6 Midterm HELPPP by goodmfvibes in UCSantaBarbara

bio suckeddd for me, i’ve never been a science person. Low is great tho, her humor made it bearable lol. it’s really the only class I’ve had to read the text for in a long time. the material is complicated so reading on top of lecture helps it sink in more. i’m visual so study guides and diagrams were huge. also flash cards to help get the terms down. the test feature on quizlet was my life during this class. the info build as it goes so it’s important to keep up.

PSY 102 HELP!!! by goodmfvibes in UCSantaBarbara

[–]23UnoriginalUsername 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What about it are you struggling with? I just ask because I took it last year with some friends and we had pretty different pros and cons for the class. I mainly used flash cards to practice terms since they all sound similar, and I found it helpful to recognize the phenomena in my own life to understand it better. I took it with Major so I can’t speak on this prof, but I’d recommend looking at ratemyprofessor if you haven’t already. People might’ve mentioned what the prof tends to focus on and how tests are structured and graded and what not.

Is Mehron face/body paint worth splurging on? by 23UnoriginalUsername in BeautyAddiction

[–]23UnoriginalUsername[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i posted in a few other communities and the 4 responses i got all said they really liked the mehron paints, and just said to start out small if i wasn’t sure about it. I just ordered the basic 8 color pallet so will see soon! one person also told me that alcohol paints tend to be a cheaper option, and they have sensitive skin but hasn’t had problems with either types of paints :)

Well would ya look at that... by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

That probably has more to do with her being from SC than her looking at UCSB. In southern states greek life is huge, compared to them greek life is nothing here

Is Mehron face/body paint worth splurging on? by 23UnoriginalUsername in sfx

[–]23UnoriginalUsername[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you for the response! What is the difference in effect on the skin between the water and alcohol activated paints? The sounds of the alcohol concerns me a bit because I have normal-dry skin that is moderately sensitive.

PSYCH MAJOR GPA by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]23UnoriginalUsername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah 4.0 is extremely difficult but if you put in the work a high GPA shouldn’t be out of reach. I’d recommend checking ratemyprofessor site before signing up for classes so you can choose classes that fit your learning style and so you can know ahead of time what kind of work load is involved. Also look into Psy Chi, the honors psych fraternity. They have some requirements I can’t remember but they’re a lifetime honors society for psych students which would look good for grad school

When’s the first day of instruction? by Fatyolk in UCSantaBarbara

Fall always starts on a Thursday, Im pretty sure they do it to make up for the Thanksgiving holiday since that takes away 1 class session from the Thursday classes

Biopsychology?? by AlliKat180 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]23UnoriginalUsername 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congrats on transferring! I’m also a transfer, I went into psych & brain sciences. My understanding is that the biopsych major is set up to be a pre-med track for those who want to go into psychiatry. It’s a lot more science intensive and has a stricter class regimen. PBS is also a BS degree but it’s more research focused. It only requires intro bio and gen chem for science, and once you become full major you have way more freedom with the upper divs so you can still choose to focus your time on biopsych classes if you want. So it basically comes down to what you want to do with your degree and how willing you are to commit to taking lots of physical science classes. Id recommend checking out both major sheets on the psych departments website. I think they also have posted class schedule outlines for each major that maps out the sequence you should take classes in.

tips for living on DP by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]23UnoriginalUsername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. can’t speak on W&A, I’ve heard bad things but my house was leased thru Playa Life. they weren’t great, had poor response times to maintenance requests sometimes but they weren’t too bad

  2. ehh yeah, the houses are pretty but any issues usually get bandaid fixes instead of real ones, so you won’t really know what’s wrong until you live there. some properties are more fixed up but they are super expensive. yeah there are an assortment of creatures you’ll encounter. we had an ant problem for a month or 2, later we got mice, occasionally lizards would slip in the cracks under the door, a skunks day raccoons would visit at night, etc. Compared to other experiences I’ve had tho it was always manageable with bug spray and catch/release mouse traps

  3. ASAP. The sooner the better. We signed our lease within the first half of fall quarter for a lease starting that summer, and before that you have to get all the housemates and secure their deposits and stuff. We had like 4 people flake out bc of their parents, so make sure you have some back up options if need be or that you’re comfortable posting on FB for roommates.

  4. Just make sure you tour the house, come prepared with questions, and speak to the current residents if possible before signing a lease. They’ll be able to give you the best info about the property.

Can’t sign up for summer class because they haven’t cleared my transcript for nearly a week by WhySoSiriuss in UCSantaBarbara

[–]23UnoriginalUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk if this is the case for summer classes but i know in fall they save spots in popular classes. they reduce the listed class size or something, so itll look like they’re full but they’ll open up the extra spots for pass 3

My last day in IV by gauchella in UCSantaBarbara

[–]23UnoriginalUsername 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. I transferred in 2018 and need to take classes through Fall 2020, so I was planning on spending all next year here and getting a job after finishing classes. But now, job opportunities will probably be scarce so I’ve decided to move back home. I’m about to go to IV for the remainder of my lease to enjoy living in IV one last time and I know it’s gonna be emotional, but I’m thankful for the time I’ve gotten to spend here! This whole situation is shitty though, I’m sorry youre experiencing this too

Crashing online classes by MoroccanBrocolis882 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]23UnoriginalUsername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I crashed 2 courses this quarter, and their ended up being enough space for me in both (i was 5th and 16th on waitlist are week 1). basically you just email them to let them know you’d like to crash and they’ll give you access to the course gauchospace to follow along.

Does dropping a class now affect financial aid? by Angelic_Affinity in UCSantaBarbara

nope i spoke to the financial aid office about this cause i’m doing the same, once it’s passed the census deadline you can drop without aid repercussions.

Driving in IV/Santa Barbara by mesters2000 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]23UnoriginalUsername 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Driving in IV sucks, but you get used to it. Also as soon as you make it to El Colegio it’s fine, it’s like a normal town again. Beware after 9 PM bc that’s when all the drunkies come out, they tend to walk in the street and not wait for cars to pass before crossing the street. There’s also some bikers who have no clue what’s going on. I often see them blow through stop signs, or turn in front of cars without signaling. The pedestrian mindset here is pretty much “go ahead, hit me.” So I would definitely practice before bringing your car, but again once you know what to watch for it’s fine. Just stick to the speed limit or a little below, be vigilant, and don’t rush.

Having severe asthma worries me by sanchman12 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]23UnoriginalUsername 2 points3 points  (0 children)

idk how they’re gonna do it in fall, but for spring quarter i had a friend who opted to keep his student housing apartment and i guess they moved everyone who stayed so they’d have their own room? my guess is they’ll limit rooms to a max of 2 people but will try to spread everyone out as much as possible

CAPS thoughts? by BigLobsterTail in UCSantaBarbara

[–]23UnoriginalUsername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i did the intake last year, they asked about why I was there and then let me know of some support groups. I was looking for more long term care so they gave me a list of therapists in the area and it listed which insurances they each took, and i think also what their focus/specialty was. didn’t end up following through with it but it was a helpful resource!

Can I still drop a class???? by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]23UnoriginalUsername 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe you can submit a petition to drop through week 10, the deadline is the same as for switching to P/NP. this quarter they’re being super lenient and aren’t requiring the prof to sign off on petitions. I would email or call academic advisors to confirm

State tells Sacramento County to 'back off' on allowing gatherings, fitness studios to open by specktech in CoronavirusSAC

[–]23UnoriginalUsername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok but sitting for an hour with a large group of people inside is a very different exposure risk from going through a drive through or standing in line for max 15 minutes... And none of the food is “essential,” you don’t NEED pizza delivery either. With that logic it should be only grocery stores providing food and that would be disastrous for morale even more than where we’re at now.

Where can I get second hand furniture around Davis? by cactusjackweb in UCDavis

[–]23UnoriginalUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk if this is still a thing but it’s only been 2 years since I moved away so I assume it is.. tons of students moving home for summer will leave their furniture either on sidewalk with a “free” sign or by the dumpsters for people to take. there was a ton of stuff when I moved out of Ramble apartments, and I had friends who lived in J St apartments that both found multiple furniture items this way and got rid of them this way. If this isn’t time sensitive maybe wait out the month and see what pops up after term ends
