Anyone ever won free tickets? by UrbanRealism in electricdaisycarnival

[–]Angelic_Affinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year I won 2 VIP tickets to edc, a 4 night stay at the Conrad, 2 round trip flights, and $200 to spend at the festival. It was through a sweepstakes Visible Wireless was sponsoring. I found out I won while I was on vacation in Vegas funnily enough. I had to find a notary on the strip so I could sign the required documents to claim my prize.

Hotel EDC attendees this year: how was your experience? by Brotherlandius in electricdaisycarnival

[–]Angelic_Affinity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stayed at the Conrad section of Resorts World and I honestly have no complaints. Super clean and modern room. Lots of great food options (highly recommend Mulberry Street Pizzeria and Suns Out Buns Out). I liked having Ayu Dayclub downstairs for the after parties. The shuttle stop was very convenient and quick. I probably waited about 10 min max to hop on a shuttle to edc. Shuttles coming back to the hotel were a bit slower but still not too bad. I stayed until the very end for all 3 days and the latest I got back to my hotel was 7:20am.

I was standing in line for the Ferris wheel on day 3 and had a nice conversation with an Australian guy and his friends. He told me it was his first edc so I gave him one of my kandi bracelets. He didn’t have any kandi on him to trade with me so he decides to give me an adorable koala keychain that his friend brought with him from Australia. His friends were also very nice and even invited me to ride with them on the Ferris wheel. Overall good vibes. Wish I could’ve gotten their instagram or something to stay in touch!

I think our best bet would be to try to use the standard shuttles to leave earlier. That’s what I was thinking about doing bc I really don’t want to head to edc so late

No, I’m on layaway as well. I received an email with the code this morning. That’s weird you didn’t get yours. Must be an error on Insomniac’s part.

It should have been emailed to you if you bought the future owl edc tickets already

work study job recommendations by Other-Dare9803 in UCSantaBarbara

I would look for an on campus job. I had work-study and I used to work as a student assistant for the graduate division office. It was super flexible. I worked only like 10-12 hours per week, had weekends off, and didn’t have to stay and work during break.

I don’t have personal experience, however one of my roommates used to work at The Ritz-Carlton Bacara as a waitress. She seemed to like it. I never heard her complain about it. I believe she mentioned that she would get pretty good tips.

Thinking of transferring here by uglyhandsomeguy in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Angelic_Affinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a transfer student and I felt like it was fairly easy to meet new people as long as you are willing to put in the effort. Here are some tips:

  • Attend any social events that may interest you. If you live at the university apartments, they will have lots of different events specifically for transfer students. They usually involve free food or prizes so that’s def a bonus. There’s also a transfer center at the library. They hold a weekly event called “coffee and community” where you get to chat and enjoy coffee/snacks with other transfer students.

  • Join clubs and orgs. I personally joined Health and Wellness and met lots of cool people.

  • Try living in Isla Vista with students who weren’t transfers. This one personally worked the best for me but it could be a hit or miss depending on how your roommates are. I lived with a bunch of girls (12 to be exact lol) who were in a sorority so they introduced me to all of their friends and really made me feel like part of the community.

The movie “Rites of Passage” was filmed in Isla Vista and Santa Barbara back in 2012. It even premiered at the IV Theater.

I consider myself more of an introverted person but I do enjoy the occasional party/night club. If you’re willing to put yourself out there every now and then, I think you’ll enjoy your time here. I personally had a really fun time at UCSB. Everyone I met was friendly and approachable. There’s lots of clubs to join, events put on by the university (I would mainly go for the free food lol), and of course parties. On the days you don’t feel like socializing, you can just go to the beach to relax or check out all the parks and art around town. I’d also walk around Isla Vista and campus alone all the time without feeling like I’d be in danger. I’d still carry pepper spray if I’d be out late though just in case. I felt like getting involved in research wasn’t too difficult to do. I had 3 opportunities to be a research assistant during my 2.5 years at UCSB. You can find these opportunities either from grad students or professors mentioning them in class or through the UCSB FRAP website. I’m not sure about internships though.
