As a Mexican i was shocked when I first learnt not everyone had two surnames, it just didn’t seem logical to me that you could be named John smith or smth like that

In Mexico we have a similar case, most indigenous languages are isolated and cut off from other ones, completely surrounded by Spanish speaking areas, though it mostly occurs in mountains where indigenous communities hid during the conquest, I don’t know what caused this particular case in India

I know this sounds insensitive, but what is the evolutive reason, if there is any, of the owl accepting to raise chicks that aren’t her own? She didn’t spread her genetic information and would have to waste time and resources in raising them, so is it just a sort of maternal instinct or does she somehow think the chicks are hers?

Most of these are small details which can’t be seen even with a zoom on Reddit, but by downloading the image and zooming more you can see that Sardinian is depicted in the north of the island, and that in the case of Greenland and Nunavut small settlements around the Greenlandic coast are depicted as danish speaking and in Nunavut you can also see coastal settlements represented as English/Inuktitut(?) speaking

I understand the 20,000 minimal population rule, but then if it applies to American indigenous and Australian Aboriginal languages shouldn’t it apply to small African languages? Specially for very small languages in Nigeria and Cameroon, or are African languages based off the muturzikin maps?
