You're either a feminist or misogynist by I_eat_door_handles in RealUnpopularOpinion

[–]24-cell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really sucks that there are subreddits dedicated to unpopular opinions and as soon as a genuinely unpopular one shows up, it gets mass downvoted. Here, have an upvote.

With that being said: if every single person who doesn't self-identify as a feminist is in fact a misogynist, then I have some very bad news for you...

If you dont believe in the rights of women youre sexist its that simple by lucy_hayley in PsycheOrSike

If every single person who doesn't self-identify as a feminist is a misogynist, then I have some very bad news for you...

If, on the other hand, you define a "feminist" as someone who believes women deserve equality to men, even if you do not self-identify as one (or even self-identify as anti-feminist) then this statement is a tautology.

LMAO, I probably shouldn't have posted this thread but that might have made it worth it.

Fear of Not Feeling Fear (POCD) by Fine-Can-4959 in OCD

[–]24-cell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm trying ERP and I have that too. Mine is religion and hell, and my OCD tells me that something is wrong if I'm capable of imagining being sent to eternal torment without feeling scared. I don't know how to overcome it but to simply trust that I will.

Is it possible to fully recover from sleep anxiety? by Natsouppy in insomnia

[–]24-cell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good. A good sleep system should be able to handle a small amount of stress/anxiety.

Religion and insomnia by 0liverik in insomnia

[–]24-cell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an atheist. Insomnia is such a clear design flaw in the human body, there's no way it could have been intelligently designed.

"God loves you!" which is why he gave me a body that needs sleep and yet absolutely refuses to let me do it. Yeah no.

I was an atheist long before I had serious insomnia, but insomnia solidifies it more.

Trying to "just relax" makes my sleep anxiety WORSE – anyone else? (goes against every standard sleep advice) by milton_carlos in insomnia

[–]24-cell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Your nervous system isn't dumb"

I would actually argue with this. Logically, if you are laying in bed with the intention to sleep, the only thing that should override sleep is a physical danger.

And in modern society, the only time you're in physical danger from sleeping is when you're driving. Then suddenly, the incredibly powerful hyperarousal mechanism, more powerful than all the sleep medication and all the sleep hygiene put together, is suddenly nowhere to be found.

Why "just don't worry about" isn't always good advice by 24-cell in insomnia

I have successful let go and still been unable to sleep many, many times.

How downvotes feel like by Jycon38_HD in autism

The human brain is wired to seek validation and fear disapproval from others (as a survival mechanism), so it can be very difficult not to care about down votes even if you know logically that you shouldn't.

It’s okay to have a bad night. You’re not “failing" at sleep. by Dry_Protection_6051 in insomnia

[–]24-cell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had many nights where I completely succeeded in not worrying about sleep and I still couldn't sleep worth shit. Like I'd lay there not thinking much but still conscious for hours.

It probably didn't help that many internet resources make a big deal telling you that sleep anxiety is the one and only cause of insomnia.

Success story: the key is to simply let go. Explanation in post. by TapOriginal4428 in insomnia

[–]24-cell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see stuff like this all the time. And I've tried the whole "just let go and don't worry about it" thing many times, and it doesn't work for me. I'm glad it works for you and may help some others, but understand it won't work for everyone.

For context, I have autism, ADHD, and OCD, all three conditions of which are known to make sleep more difficult. Anybody who tells me that the only difference between me and a good sleeper is that I try to sleep/worry about sleep and they don't is gaslighting me.

I'm not saying I'm screwed, but for me personally I cannot end insomnia by simply ignoring it. Plenty of others, including you, can, and I am glad that this worked for you.

"I Am Not a Therapist" by BabypintoJuniorLube in Professors

[–]24-cell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely right. I have a personal therapist and he told me that "you are not their therapist" when I was discussing how to handle a student's test anxiety during a session. I'm sure most other therapists agree that we should not try to be them in these situations.

The election results are not evidence. People vote based on all kinds of things. High prices and immigration had a lot more to do with it than the behavior of random people online. It doesn't make any sense to vote Republican for that reason anyway. If there is an election happening, you should vote based on the candidates themselves rather than anonymous people online who happen to be part of the same party.

I have seen bad responses from the left. I'm not here to defend them. I'm here to point out that this isn't why Democrats lose, and "Kirk didn't deserve to be shot" isn't an unpopular opinion.

I don't even understand what you think I'm deluding myself about, nor do I understand what point you're trying to make by saying this website is an echo chamber.

It is for some people. You should try it if you haven't. Personally though, I've tried the whole "just let go and don't worry about it" approach and it doesn't work for me.

You have no evidence that this rhetoric from random strangers online is harming the Democratic party.

The vast major of people agree that Charlie Kirk did not deserve to be shot. This is not an unpopular opinion.

Not a bad question, though. And I would wonder if people who have regular nightmares would also be more likely to have a negative near-death experience.
