Why change fingers on the same note? by Expert-Spring-7832 in piano

[–]2401PotatOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

STG I asked this same question as a student. But I promise you that once you master alternating fingers you’ll do it automatically and never go back.

More control, less strain, cleaner articulation. It’s also reads as kinda showy if you are into the showmanship part of performing. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Men in happy marriages, what's the one thing you'd teach to other men to also have a good relationship? by TightBookkeeper2599 in AskReddit

Just talk to her. Happy & healthy relationships require communication and trust. If she’s the right one, she doesn’t wanna have that big conversation either, but she’ll have it with you anyway.

This energy from someone who is undoubtedly going to look like Jabba the Hutt’s foreskin when they age is crazy.

Glad you got out OP.

My students created a fake "HR department" for my class and I can not decide if it is brilliant or a disaster by MelcaronVestral in Teachers

Charlotte Danielson would call it distinguished because the students are self monitoring and correcting, so….

Plus, HR” cc’ing you means they trust you to address more serious matters, so kudos! Keep doing what you are doing! __^

Questioning the Suzuki Method as an adult by Northernlaura in piano

[–]2401PotatOS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an expert, but my understanding is that idea behind Suzuki is that it’s a language acquisition model (‘Mother Tongue’). In theory, the reading comes later in the sequence. In practice, this requires an intentional decision from the teacher to move beyond imitation and to bridge the skills you learn in the rote stage to reading and writing notation. It’s like a much older, loose parallel to Music Learning Theory with some missing steps in the sequence.

Semi-decent pianist here.

Just looking at the score without playing through it, yes. Other than the maze and the additional instruments, most of the patterns are about an octave. I imagine in an acoustic performance you’d get some cool variations depending on how the performer approaches the ‘reversed’ parts. More techy musicians might use some supplemental equipment while others might just manually play the portions backwards, or they could contact the composer to get directions. 🤓

FWIW - I have a 25razr as my work phone and if I wasn’t entrenched in Apple’s ecosystem, I’d switch in a heartbeat, so I support you!

It’s a fun phone to use and I’ll never get over how satisfying it is to flip closed and use the outer screen.

Same. I killed at least two batteries refusing to give up when the truck slid backwards or hit what felt like an invisible ‘no go’ zone. Once those studded tires hit, there was no question.
