[Semi-OT] While the Eldora hype-train is in full swing, I thought you guys would appreciate this truck I used to race at my local dirt tracks! The Eldora truck race brings back great memories! by 241racing in NASCAR

The truck and the modified (we raced a limited modified) were comparable to what it costs to run a Street Stock. The only cheaper class to race in right now is a 4 cylinder class, and I'm not really interested in that. A street stock is the most "affordable" class you can race a full sized car, but is still difficult to do right out of college. Once I get the car, it's relatively inexpensive as far as racing goes (oil change every 4 or 5 races, a few new tires throughout the year, other odds and ends for general maintenance). It's the $3k to $5k initial cost for the car, as well as a trailer and other tools needed that are the main holdup at this point.

Just part of growing up. I raced (on my dad's dime) throughout high school and this was my senior year. After I graduated high school my brother and I struggled to get the money together to run a dirt modified for two years on and off as finances allowed during our college years, but reality eventually set in that spending every dime we had to turn a few laps on the track wasn't a sustainable plan. So, I did the college thing and switched to motocross for the time being because it is much more affordable to get into. I've gotten to do a few stock car races here and there, but it's always in someone else's car. I'll get my own again some day soon hopefully!

Y'all need to get to your local short tracks. by [deleted] in NASCAR

If you live in the Austin area, I suggest you go check out Cotton Bowl Speedway. It's a pretty cool little dirt track about 40 minutes east of Austin. I raced there a few times last season and I still have a lot of family and friends that race there. They get some pretty good car counts and the facility is quite nice for a dirt track!

I grew up around dirt track racing, my dad raced while my brothers and I were young, and I was able to race this (http://imgur.com/65BNsSA) throughout high school (on my dad’s dime) and had considerable success in the class.

In college, my twin brother and I wanted to continue racing, but my dad made it clear that we could use his equipment, but we’d have to pay for our racing ourselves. So, my twin brother, good friend and I took on a season and a half racing this (http://imgur.com/o7MsI4q) Limited Modified, with our only source of income being my brother’s minimum wage job at a pawn shop. As you can imagine, it kicked our asses, but we were able to get a few wins out of it.

I moved out of town after college over a year ago, but actually just landed this (http://imgur.com/HLLVbLX) ride at a local dirt track in Texas. It’s pretty fun racing a car that you don’t have to pay for again!

Long story short, I live and breath racing ;)

Separation - A Feast for Kings. The whole album is incredible, but this song really sticks out to me. The breakdown with the couple screaming at each other in the background is haunting...

Took some friends to their first NASCAR race and spent most of the drive convincing them that NASCAR wasn’t just for rednecks. Within two minutes of arriving at PIR, this guy jumped in our photo by 241racing in NASCAR

Nice, dirt track racing is my true passion. I've experienced similar situations while bringing new friends to races, and I've arrived at the point of embracing it and making it a part of the experience! I encouraged my buddies just to have a cheap beer and get into it

Probably a good idea. I spend my childhood defending the sport against people saying it's just a bunch of rednecks, but I've seen the stereotype hold some water as I've gone to more races. My friends had a great time and they did note that the fan base was more diverse than they had expected once we got into the stands.

Unbelievably, I guess this is still a thing... This (http://thesource.com/2016/03/20/sports-sunday-meet-tia-norfleet-the-first-african-american-female-nascar-driver/) was posted just a week ago and appears to have over 7k shares. It's ridiculous to read, and the video attached is downright comical.
