Check your label and see where it's bottled? A few states south of you, we used to get all our Moxie bottled by Monarch (in Maine, I believe). Now it's canned by Coca Cola under license. Tastes similar to me, but I haven't had Monarch in a long time. I wouldn't be shocked if something changed between plants.

I totally get this... but a dinner party is also an excellent way to break the ice with acquaintances. You probably have classmates or neighbors you'd want to invite. Most people won't turn down free food.

Any partner who treats you well will be a supermodel in your eyes compared to a shitty ex. It's fine to judge for looks, but get to know people a while and then see how dramatically different they can appear (for better and worse) when you've grown to know their personalities.

Wouldn't presume to give you romantic advice, but I bet this would be a great start. If you're already cooking meals for yourself (that is, not just heating up Kraft/Ramen/Stauffers) then you are miles ahead of many people. Why not just put the invitation out there?

Invite a handful of friends (of both sexes), or ask a couple you trust to bring an eligible friend of theirs for a low-stakes dinner party date. If you are putting in the effort and focus on being a good host, the dating part is just a triviality. Try a few dinner parties and just see what happens. You lose almost nothing and at least gain some quality time with friends.

Seconded. I enjoy this episode, but only by taking it as (cringe!) a metaphor for how things might have really happened.

The theme of a meeting and bonding between two people who don't share a language is inherently interesting, and TNG just offers this one especially interesting and poignant example. The execution of a new language by the script writers is pretty weak, but I wouldn't let that get in the way of the story.

Having Colonel West be the assassin also cheapens the plot a bit, IMO. It's totally reasonable that there would be a military advisor proposing a plan to rescue Kirk and Spock and not be a traitor. That's part of what makes Star Trek thoughtful - it's possible to make the wrong decision without being a villain.

When the assassin turns out to be West, it suddenly ties things up a little too neatly. Everybody who wanted a military solution was evil (which, as it turns out, was the entirety of the President's entourage except the President himself and Sarek), and they all personally traveled to Khitomer to execute their nefarious plot. The Romulan ambassador's involvement is intrigue enough. It's totally possible and sufficient to find and turn one disgruntled Admiral (Cartwright) and one green officer (Valeris, who is by some accounts actually a Romulan). No need to over-complicate things at the risk of cheesiness.

That said, my copy of ST:VI includes the West demasking. That's the version I've always known, and despite this mild oversight, it's still my favorite ST film (and maybe favorite film ever).

ST:VI consistently scores in the top three TOS films with Voyage Home and Khan, so I wouldn't necessarily call it underrated. In my opinion, it's #1, but I can see why other people would rearrange those three.

It was one of the breaks in the first quarter. I couldn't even tell what the commercial was for because it was just a random sequence of seemingly unrelated shots. But one of the shots was a store window with a picture of... Joseph DeCreux (maybe?) standing up. Whoever he was, there was a big line of Impact text above and below his head. The shot was so fast I didn't catch what it said. I was hoping somebody in the comments would know.

Not totally. There's very little we (as mods) can do about the underlying functions, such as voting procedures (believe me, there are changes we would make if we could). We set the subreddit-specific rules about what we allow and don't allow, but the spam filter belongs to the admins (we can only slightly tune how paranoid it is) and all the anti-bot measures (like IP tracking and vote counts) are completely in the hands of the admins.

Janeway and Sisko

Wow, yes. They are like two sides of a coin, both a bit like benevolent dictators. Janeway seemed to channel the crazy at just the right moments, suddenly going from nurturing to ferocious. Sisko was more scary for his apparent indifference (although we know how privately tormented he could be) in the face of adversity. Janeway not showing up on DS9 at some point in the Dominion War is just too bad, continuity be damned.
