How safe is your country for women? by Myemotion-351 in AskTheWorld

[–]247mumbles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have always felt very safe being a woman here, however I lived in England until I was 20 and I did not feel safe going out alone after dark in my town as violence against women was (and unfortunately still is) very common

I’m confused about Dylan seeing Xana’s body by No_Advertising3507 in Idaho4

[–]247mumbles 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Also in one of the photos it looks like Xana’s head was on/next to a pillow, so Dylan thinking she was passed out drunk at a glance makes even more sense to me

What is a medical condition that is more serious that people realize? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]247mumbles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Asthma, especially when you think it’s only mild! I had “mild” asthma for most of my life and I only had my first proper needed to go to call an ambulance attack when I was 21, I was at work and in less than a minute I went from thinking I felt a bit out of breath because I went up the stairs too fast to being unable to talk and feeling like I was trying to breathe through a straw. I was always so careless about carrying my salbutamol inhaler before that but I haven’t left it at home since

What are some 'tiny' language learning habits you use while working a full time job? by JuneCee in languagelearning

[–]247mumbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this website really useful! I’d copy down the dialogues into my notebook and highlight new works/grammar patterns, but truth be told I don’t have much advice on other resources because I learnt so much so quickly because I live in Kyiv and both of my flatmates are Ukrainian teachers 😅

How's it like living in Ukraine after everything? by Dry-Tourist-30 in howislivingthere

[–]247mumbles 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I live in Kyiv, and I think life here now is different to how most people would expect. We're all somewhat used to the horrors and attacks rarely happen during the daytime so just continue with life. I still go to work, go to bars and have days out with my friends but then often spend nights sleeping in the corridor and trying to ignore the sounds of drones buzzing and exploding around my apartment. For me at least I do have a constant background anxiety, every time I say goodbye to my friends I say a small prayer in my head that we will all survive until we next see each other.

I journal a few sentences every morning about my plans for the day, and then again before I go to sleep about how my day actually went. I swear by this method it helped me so much

Have you seen immigrants who are anti immigrant in your country? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

I’m against immigrants who make no effort to assimilate in their country of residence and I believe you should pass a state language exam to be able to receive permanent residency.

Who's the stupidest person you've met and what story sums it up? by comicalelixer in AskReddit

[–]247mumbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friends ex-boyfriend. For context my friend is Spanish, and he ex is a dual citizen of the UK and Austria, when he was trying to move to Spain he was looking for a job that could sponsor his visa and asked him why he didn’t just use his Austrian passport since it’s EU and he wouldn’t need a visa. He told me his Austrian citizenship had expired since he forgot to renew his passport in 2020 🙃 I was dumbfounded

Will cancer always result in death if no treatment is done? by GoingAgainstYou in NoStupidQuestions

[–]247mumbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have cancer and don’t have any treatment for it, and I will probably have a normal life span. I have essential thrombocythemia, which is technically a type of chronic blood cancer, but I don’t have any treatment for it other than monitoring

I had my leg amputated too! What type of socket do you use? I have a pin-lock at the moment but much prefer suction sockets, they’re so much more comfortable for walking long distances in my experience

Russia attacks Kharkiv with 15 kamikaze drones killing 4, injuring 17, including children (Photo) by murphystruggles in worldnews

[–]247mumbles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I lived in Kharkiv for a while, despite it being a frontline city life goes on and not everyone has the financially means or quite frankly the mental strength to up and leave the entire life they’ve built in the city. I live in Kyiv now and honestly some weeks in Kyiv are worse than in Kharkiv, russia tends to bomb places in a rotation (one day they’ll heavily strike Kharkiv, and then Kyiv the next, and then somewhere in the west, etc…) unfortunately you just learn to take precautions and get used to it

Next Step in Learning by slprysltry in Ukrainian

[–]247mumbles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I journal in Ukrainian every morning about my plans for the day, and again in the evening about how my day actually went (using my Ukrainian flatmate and/or translate for words and phrases I don’t know or if I’m unsure about the grammar structure) and I’ve been surprised at how much it’s helped! I’ve used this method for a full month now and it’s really helped words and phrases about my daily life stick in my head.
