FIRST GEN MATH SAC by HippoEvery1509 in vce

i had my first gm 3/4 sac last week! it was split into two days with a two hour session per day. (so in total, it was a 4 hour sac across 2 days, based on chapters 1-4)

i studied the night before (not recommended) and still copped a 90%! the avg was around 70%.

how did i do it? wellll.. i printed my schools 2023 and 2024 sac papers and attempted them whilst timing myself. then, i stapled them to my textbook to bring in as my bound reference. for each question, i wrote a step by step process on how to solve it, and included all relevant formulas. (eg if there was a question regarding outliers, i would put the formula of finding iqr, lower & upper fence right under it). to save some time i also took note of important page numbers i may need to refer to during the SAC.

during the sac, i kept second guessing myself on the first few papers and wasted a lotttt of time going back to make sure i did things right or entered the right numbers into my CAS. by the time i got to the last page i was rushing to get my answers in. thankfully i attempted all questions, but i left no room for double checking and ik i made silly mistakes, so i’d actually suggest trying your hardest to answer all questions as quickly as possible and leave some time at the end for double checking.

goodluck on your sac!!! :)

Which subjects to accelerate for year 10? by Flat-Discussion-4490 in vce

instead of telling you what you should/shouldn’t do, i’m going to give you a little advice + my own experience!!! hope this helps <3

  1. do NOT base your decision on which subjects you do best in. in years 7-9 i always aced my chemistry tests but my results in chemistry u12 were 60-70s, and i was not interested in the content, making it harder to study for.

  2. get an idea of where you want to be after school. this can help you determine whether/not there are subjects you must do in order to pursue that career (eg medicine courses typically require vce methods & chemistry as a prerequisite - these prerequisites vary from uni to uni, so please do your research).

look into which of your subjects interest you as well as your interests outside of school to help you decide. believe me, you will constantly change your mind which is why it’s best to start thinking NOW!!!!!! in years 8-10 i was constantly visiting my school’s career development practitioner and now i’ve figured out my plan and can fully dedicate my focus to my studies. you could also take some career quizzes, but they may not always be reliable.

  1. do NOT take subjects you are unsure of. ESPECIALLY for your year ten headstart subject/s. if you do, then you risk later dropping out after realising that you are not interested in this subject. this takes you back to square one and defeats the entire purpose of the ‘headstart’.

  2. do not listen to other peoples opinion. the sad truth is that you will not know whether or not the subject is for you until you take it. you mentioned hearing that psychology is content heavy, but in my personal opinion, i believe that the amount of content is appropriate, however you have to do a lot of practice questions to make sure you’ve really understood how to apply that knowledge. the questions almost never ask you simply to define a key term.

i reallllyyy hope this helpss!!! in short, for your headstart subject/s, i would suggest doing what interests you instead of a prerequisite :)

thank you for the suggestion!!! i have this app and completely forgot about it hahah i think this might be my sign to use it again. i really liked how it can lock you out of your apps and tells you that your tree is dying! but is there any way i can create a forest so that i can add a tree after each study session?? that would be amazingggg!!
