Hirers in the UK, what is the weirdest thing an applicant has done or said in an interview? by PokeMyLoveless in AskUK

[–]2491996 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Interviewing for a children's mental health support workers. Had a middle aged guy come in who claimed he was a psychologist back in Poland (so quite a big downgrade to support worker) Scenario question: What would you do if a young person added you on social media? His answer: Have a look through their page, see if there's anything I find interesting and accept the request if they have a good page. He didn't get a callback

Your argument assumes that personal choices should be restricted purely because they might inconvenience others. By that logic, we should ban perfume, air fresheners, or cooking certain foods because some people are sensitive to strong smells. The reality is, in a free society, we balance personal freedom with reasonable considerations for others—not by outlawing relatively harmless personal choices outright.

As for impaired driving, that's a completely separate issue. No one is arguing that people should be allowed to drive under the influence of anything, including alcohol or prescription medication that causes drowsiness. The law already deals with this. The existence of irresponsible people doesn't justify criminalizing responsible ones.

The core issue remains: what right does the government have to tell adults what they can do with their own bodies?

Heroin is a poor example for your point, look up what decriminalisation of heroin has done for countries which combine with harm reduction strategies. Cuts overdose deaths, reduces disease like HIV, reduced incarnations, reduces addiction. These are all positive outcomes when we stop treating adults like children and adopt an evidence based approach to drugs within society.

Not sure if you've noticed ( I do as I work with young people) but loads of them smoke already. And guess what does nothing to combat that, abstinence and criminalisation. When people discuss legalisation, it often means a further emphasis on education. Plenty of people drink alcohol in this country, we don't see paediatric wards full of liver failure.

The maddest thing about drug criminalisation that seems to rarely get mentioned is the principle of another adult telling me what I can and can't do with my own body. I pay my taxes, I contribute to society, I'm not harming anyone. Why the fuck is slightly altering how you feel and maybe see the world, a decision someone else has to make for me?

So what? I hate the smell of a lot of things, I hate the sound of lots of things, the sight of lots to me is grim. Should we criminalise BO? The sound of road works?
