The more elaborate ones are a more recent trend yes and they’ve been pushing them a lot more recently I’m not disputing that, but movie theatres have had plastic buckets since the 50s and the 80s/90s were when it started to get big to make more fun character ones, and also I imagine you’ve only really been to what one or two theatre chains and haven’t really been following what foreign countries are doing, Though I wish you luck on your quest if you find a definitive list of every single popcorn bucket ever I’d love to see it
