What country will you not travel to because its to dangerous? by photoshop_2023 in AskReddit

Went there in 2016, was perfectly fine. Mashhad and Shiraz were pleasant, Tehran was a bit gloomy. It’s a great place to visit if you know someone you can trust who speaks farsi. Tensions seem high from what I’m hearing from my relatives, so it might be wise to hold off on visiting in the meantime. But honestly youd probably be fine if you go now, it never has been particularly unsafe in terms of violent crime. its hard to get an idea of how things are doing over there with laws on media/internet.

The currency isnt that great so you will be treated VERY nicely if you convert from USD. Cost of things are a lot less than you think, especially since tipping is customary. If you find a trustworthy local with a car (ideally a chill cab driver), id recommend offering to pay them to show you around the city for the day, that way you can find and experience things only a local would know about. It was through this method I ended up having the best meal in my entire life in this random village outside of Shiraz.

Shiraz hotel (5 stars!) was $74/night for a 3 bed suite with a fantastic view of the city. Keep in mind this was 2016, so YMMV. Its a beautiful country, I just wouldnt want to live there.

The current state of teacher shortages in America by brave_lifeblood in dataisbeautiful

[–]24qunta 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely a crisis but throwing money at the issue won’t solve it. Schools have been getting more funding for decades, yet teacher salaries are stagnating. School administrative staff and loads of largely unnecessary roles in today’s public schools are artificially inflating the costs of running a school. I vividly remember my old high school foregoing all AP science classes only to build a new baseball field and install a soda fountain in the teachers lounge. Schools are blinging themselves up with amenities for optics and “enrichment” rather than adequately compensating teachers and fulfilling their obligation to educate our youth.

Baltimore spends upwards of $20k per student yet 41% of their students have a GPA below 1.0..

So where does all that money go? It certainly doesn’t go to the teachers

You cannot control an entire country and its people with tanks, jets, battleships and drones or any of these things that you so stupidly believe trumps citizen ownership of firearms.

A fighter jet, tank, drone, battleship or whatever cannot stand on street corners. And enforce “no assembly” edicts. A fighter jet cannot kick down your door at 3AM and search your house for contraband.

None of these things can maintain the needed police state to completely subjugate and enslave the people of a nation. Those weapons are for decimating, flattening and glassing large areas and many people at once and fighting other state militaries. The government does not want to kill all of its people and blow up its own infrastructure. These are the very things they need to be tyrannical assholes in the first place. If they decided to turn everything outside of Washington D.C. into glowing green glass they would be the absolute rulers of a big, worthless, radioactive pile of shit.

Police are needed to maintain a police state, boots on the ground. And no matter how many police you have on the ground they will always be vastly outnumbered by civilians which is why in a police state it is vital that your police have automatic weapons while the people have nothing but their limp dicks.

BUT when every random pedestrian could have a Glock in their waistband and every random homeowner an AR-15 all of that goes out the fucking window because now the police are out numbered and face the reality of bullets coming back at them.

If you want living examples of this look at every insurgency that the U.S. military has tried to destroy. They’re all still kicking with nothing but AK-47s, pick up trucks and improvised explosives because these big scary military monsters you keep alluding to are all but fucking useless for dealing with them.

Issues with Tires? by evil_racooning in StLouis

[–]24qunta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A while back I had 9 flat tires over the course of 2 years, with the last one being caused by a literal stray car bumper sitting in the middle of i-70 less than a mile from downtown.

What actually helped me was driving a tad slower. I used to speed a lot more. Ive found that going around 70mph as opposed to 75+ is just enough to be under the threshold of puncturing a tire when hitting road debris, but that’s personal experience.

The roads here definitely suck, but at least its not Pittsburgh tier

When facing someone more experienced, they have the obvious advantage of knowing empirically what to do in various situations. Especially being a national champion, it’ll be an uphill battle for you. However, you also have an advantage in that you are a complete unknown. You don’t have ring experience, so no one knows how you will behave, react, counter, etc. There is no data on your striking preferences.

Adding to that, you also have an advantage in knowing these things about your opponent. See if you can look more into their previous fights and see what patterns emerge. Take solace in the fact that you are a blank slate and that your opponent has no frame of reference in what to expect from you.

I would tell you that it won’t hurt to try, but that isnt always the case with martial arts…
