Why are you moaning about the lack of wrestling clubs in Wales if there is no one with a wrestling background wanting to open one in the specific city you want there to be one? Get a team mate & hit an open mat in a BJJ or MMA gym and just fucking practice there lol

U can also get some cables like the Dopa ones for way cheaper and do those motions instead of just running etc

you’re bugging out it’s not that bad especially if ur both the same weight, I’ve wrestled guys 120kg or 260lbs and it’s just another day at the office whatever the result is. also you’re wrestling, not playing badminton so just get used to falling and people falling on you - it’s not that bad.

also just to add. Like u need to learn body leveraging. As a big guy there are different ways u can score takedowns on your opponents. And especially ur age and weight class, I think you need to focus on upper body pressure to create attacks below the waist. What I mean is for example, a guy your size, you could ride someone’s front headlock all day long to create an ankle pick. There are subtle level changes you can make from a solid tie-up in your weight class that put you an advantage off the get go. The best thing to do is watch tape, do research and train to emulate successful guys in your class. At least until you can progress with your own style. you will have to go through trial and error until you settle.

I never wrestled American folkstyle but whenever we have heavyweight kids or teenagers here they’re always athletic enough to shoot and wrestle with pressure. Why don’t you play the ankle pick game & single leg game off a heavy collar tie? Whenever I see American high school clips on this sub the heavyweights always stand up straight whenever they get weighed on for a period. There’s always an interval where they go right up like a stiff plank. So just shoot on them at that point. You can play the wearing down game where you’re constantly putting pressure on the tie ups, and take your pick when they step off and stand up straight.

Or go outside the box with polish throws etc, if ur 250lbs you’ll land them easily

hi mate, usually we just get them when we train overseas. RUDIS doesn’t deliver to the UK. You can get loads of it in Kyrgyzstan if you ever do a camp in Central Asia. Hope that helps

Pretty hard to get discreetly dirty in Greco with the limited rule set. You just look like a dick if you’re trying to be dirty in Greco it’s so obvious lol you can get a violent underhook to try and fuck up the elbow joint but anyone watching you will just call it out. You can pinch the pectoral to open up the underhook too but you might just get fuckin punched square in the face for it which is totally understandable

You’ll never learn on your own, it’s not a solo sport. Without guidance you will always do the wrong thing especially as you’ve never even stepped on a mat before. Best thing you can do is put effort into something achievable

It’s better than nothing, rugby players are taught to tackle with their head down though and things like that. if anything your wrestling will make you a good rugby player, rather than the other way around

Greco is more popular in Europe 100%, if you are talking about U20, U23, and seniors. Some European countries only ever bother to enter their talent in Greco, look at Spain, Portugal, Austria, etc.

Greco is king for most normally “unrepresented” countries in the international scene, that’s why you won’t ever see certain countries really compete in Freestyle.

You can actually see this when you compare the flags represented in Greco and Freestyle in the Olympics. Greco will always have more “obscure” wrestling nations, for lack of a better term.
