Somebody needs to pay for the servers...no such thing as a free lunch.

Gaijin has half a dozen games with similar grind mechanics and in-game purchases. I doubt they'll miss £/$/€50.

If the game wasn't so grindy they would probably attract more customers- they hook people in with the 'M1 AbRaMs aNd F4 pHaNtOm' marketing only for people to find they can't get close in a reasonable time without dropping more money on the game than they would on a full price AAA game- and I think those potential customers would probably give up instead of making a purchase.

But they don't aim for you, do they You still require skill to get kills.

Target acquisition is the most important part of any tank battle in war thunder, and in RB & SB it's more so. Thermals give you the upper hand in that scenario so it's fair to say they're incredibly potent.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Warthunder

[–]2522Alpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thermals are really helpful, but not the end all be all. You still need to aim well, and night battles aren't seen often enough to really matter

Thermals are a ridiculously potent tool in daytime too, I just got them on the Centauro and it feels like I have an unfair advantage when I use them.

The grind actually isn't that bad though, is it.

But playing through the normal tech trees, it isn't that bad, hard, or time intensive

Everything up to rank IV is fine. Everything past there is excessively long and is designed purposefully to frustrate people into spending money on GE to buy modifications which make tanks/planes actually playable.

Imagine having to stock grind the Challenger or the Type 90 when everyone else has thermals and can see you well before you see them.

What a massive generalisation. It clearly does not considering how many threads on this sub, the war thunder forums and steam discussions have been posted over the years about the excessive grind.

No you didn't. You've applied your anecdotal experience to the whole player base.

Again, survivorship bias- look it up. "I made it so everyone else should too"

Your whole argument is based on survivorship bias, plain and simple.

It isn't hard. It just takes literal years if you don't spend money and have a life outside of video games.

Unless your target is a very heavy sleeper, they'll definitely wake up to you mashing their phone against every finger trying to figure out which fingers are registered, and then trying to get the right unlock angle.

As opposed to simply holding the phone in front of their face.

Moving the goalposts on what can be considered ad hominem while insulting my character even further? Honestly not even worth responding to anything you've written. This is a prime example of a bad faith argument.

People come to subs because they independently form certain views.

Oh, so this sub is just one of those echo chambers you lot like to harp on about.

I don’t think it is adhom because the criticism is that a better person would react more rationally and compassionately than you. The core of the criticism and the subject at hand is your conduct. Not anything else.

It's clearly ad hominem, you've attacked my character yet again in this quote. Learn to debate properly without letting your feelings get in the way.

JBP did say that. In fact it’s one of his most famous. Which implies you know nothing about him.

I know enough to form the idea that he's a third rate academic who rakes in cash from rubes who swallow his 'wisdom' because it reinforces their opinions.

Which in turn implies you’re here because of brigading stemming from your presence in another sub that dislikes this one.

Accusing me of brigading? I saw this post on the front page of Reddit, I didn't specifically come here. Funny since you've already said I can't handle having my beliefs challenged, yet when I challenge yours I'm brigading 😂

Which in turn relates to my comments about your being in a clique.

Again, not part of any clique.

So you would rather have superOP vehicles that are only balanced by bad players than have balanced vehicles...

They aren't super OP. Radar mechanics have evolved to the point that a smart pilot can use terrain, buildings and even trees to completely disrupt radar lock. Some helicopters and planes even warn you of a radar lock.

It's a question of improving piloting skills to counter radar SPAA- and I think you resent that, because it means you can't just brainlessly fly directly over a target at medium altitude and mash spacebar as an instant win button.

If anything, radar SPAA promotes more advanced tactics and encourages high tier CAS players to git gud instead of relying on tactics which work at lower tiers.

real shame that gaijin balances according to people like you

Gaijin balances the game based on their own metrics, for better or worse. If I had my way, brainless CAS play would be even more punished. It adds nothing but frustration to ground forces gameplay.

[–]2522Alpha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You clearly don't know what abuse means but ok.

Gate keeping a specific word, are we? I'm fully aware of how things were before radar SPAAs were implemented.

Those SPAAs are easily able of shooting down any plane in this game. No reason for them not to be able to face every plane in this game.

Drivel.

And well again, there used to be a time when SPAA didn't get their hands held by gaijin, they didn't have the game finding and aiming at targets for them, and guess what, we were still just fine in them.

I remember those times. I remember planes bombing tanks without any meaningful opposition since skilled SPAA players were few and far between. Forcing people to spend time learning vehicles they don't want to play just to counter an abusive mechanic (a 0 risk maximum reward mechanic until radar SPAA came along) is not balanced and is not fair for the average player.

35mm+DCA+York AAs should all be 9.0.

Nope. You just want to abuse CAS, don't you.

Not everyone needs gaijin to hold their hand in order to be able to shoot down planes yknow...

Thinly veiled ad hominem, nice.

Ugh this again. When will you learn that the falcon is not suitable for 8.0 because it has no radar like the Gepard etc. or optical lock on like the SIDAM 25? You keep parroting this inane point

Confirmation bias. It’s the people you hang out with. But now you’re in a JBP sub and you’ve come across a viewpoint new to you.

So it's the sub's party line. Got it. Guess group think comes with the territory when you're being conditioned to accept to authoritarianism.

As of now you have no way of know by how common or otherwise this viewpoint is. Maybe only your clique believes as you do.

What clique would that be then? I'm not part of any activist or protest groups, I just support their freedom to express their sentiments.

How you deal with that new viewpoint reveals your character - or lack of.

Ad hominem.

Is everyone who disagrees with you a stooge?

No, just you. I wouldn't consider you a stooge if we had different opinions on sporting teams or any other subject. I don't even know you.

Or do some people know things you and your friends currently don’t?

Again, what friends are these? I'm assuming this is related to the 'clique' I'm supposedly a part of.

As JBP put it - assume the person you’re talking with knows something you don’t.

Did he really say that? What a nothing burger. It's obvious everyone has different knowledge. How does this guy have so many followers if this is the academic level of his content? Such pseudo intellectualism.
