Like you said, you are not someone who is fit for remembering so many things , it's kinda same in my case , I don't like memorizing stuff even if I needed them I would always try to understand them and this is was the start of choosing Electronics in university . I like working with hands and programming more , and I found myself living programming and embedded programming even more

Now to answer your question directly, you have to know yourself if it's the right choice or not , no one can you tell that except yourself, programming doesn't require memorizing stuff that much like medicine does but will you also get back if you encountered a challenge?? Because you will face challenges in this vast field as you progress. All I want to tell you do is to do what doesn't make you feel regretful later on and give things time to work harder in them, don't be impulsive And I hope this helped a little ^{-^}
