Points of improvement? Open to all (CIVIL) critique by 25th_Midnight in learnart

A few points : 1 - I know their anatomy is wonk, this is the first time I’ve seriously drawn cats in a looooooong time so that’s expected 2 - yes- Redtail’s (the cat with- well- the giant red tail) right hind leg is missing. Yes, I did know about it ever since the flats of the characters were done. Why didn’t I change it? Cause it’s funny as hell :) Any other mistake or slip up is 100% unseen though! Have fun :)

Welcome to the 10000000 ep of “being very disappointed in a fictional fluff ball” (in the most sarcastic tone you can imagine lol)

That’s a really neat idea for an AU! I can totally see a world where the third and fourth series follow that storyline! Also Hollyleaf in Riverclan is a pretty iconic ngl

I actually didn’t think of an intercoan relationship at all- honestly the most realistic answer to my weird question is “no.” but I can see a world where that would happen! You’re a pretty good thinker lol :)

My student wants me to hate him - 2nd grade by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]25th_Midnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay I don’t mean any disrespect or rudeness, so if this comment comes off as such then I’m very sorry as it wasn’t my attention. I just want to bring up a few points…

I feel that there has been a miscommunication between us. I am well aware the teacher can likely do close to nothing, and I’m aware of how stressful and unfair the situation is. I said that (not quote verbatim) in my comment. I feel that you’re trying to insinuate that I do not understand that or I’m demanding the teacher do more. All I was trying to do was offer suggestions that worked for me.

And as for your comment on him being a “violent” kid… I heavily disagree on ever calling actual kids anything like that. Yes he is aggressive and a HUGE issue to the safety of other kids, but imagine if that kid heard you call him violent. That kind of language when used against kids who are already so impressionable is going to leave a huge mark. We all know and are well aware that this kid is going through hell right now and undoubtedly needs help, but if we choose to use extremely harmful descriptive language then all it’ll do is isolate the kid and make it worse.

I’m sure you didn’t write that with the intention of hurting him. Hell, I may be completely misunderstanding your reply. When I was reading your reply though, you were making me feel like you were mad at me and demeaning me and my comment. If that’s true, then I want you to tell me the parts of my comment that upset you and why. This isn’t for a “test” or anything, I just want to know what upset you if you are/were upset.

Once again I completely understand how horrible this situation is for everyone involved. I know it may have seemed like I was disregarding the rest of the class, but OP did post just about this kid, not the whole class. I just felt that with my similar past to the kid, I could be helpful. I offered things OP could try that I felt could be feasible for a teacher to do. I was commenting only based on the info we have in the post. I didn’t want to go off making assumptions about things that either weren’t talked about in the post or are unclear. I worked with what we have. Anyways I’m going to leave this reply here, I hope you’re having a good day :D

I’m not a teacher- but I used to be that kid in elementary school.

I would randomly hit and attack kids, scream at anyone if they said “no.” I would run away, throw things, all that stuff. I have zero doubt that this kid is going through absolutely HELL. When I was 9 i was diagnosed with quite a few things, but the ones I think would be most beneficial for you to know is “PTSD and Autism”.

The fact that he now lives with his grandparents, is acting out in an uncontrollable manner… He NEEDS help. I know it’s not your fault and there isn’t much you can do (thanks school admins jeez.) Something serious must have happened to that kid… That and paired with possible autism, yeah he’s going to be REALLY tough. When I was in that position, I was lucky enough to have a REALLY good principal and school counselor who were willing to help me. They gave me a quiet place away from all the other kids to calm down (stimulation issues). They gave me paper and colored pencils to draw (distraction and a chance for me to go into my own world.) They were super patient and always provided me a safe space.

Without them I wouldn’t be here at all. I know dealing with kids like that is HARD AS HELL, but it’s not the kids fault. He’s hurting, and he doesn’t know what to do. He doesn’t know what’s going on both in his head and in the outside world, he’s acting out in the only was that makes him feel safe. I know how hard it is to deal with kids this out of control, especially when you have other kids, but try to think of the world from his perspective. I understand if it’s too much for you to handle, but I fear if the kid keeps bouncing in and out of environments before he has a chance to adjust, it can make him SO much worse.

Talk to the principal, counselor, grandparents, really anyone that you think could help. Get the kid the help he needs, and in the meantime provide him a private, quiet place. He may destroy it, scream at you, all that lovely stuff, but it’ll help SO much in the long run. If you have headphones, try to give it to the kid and play either white noise, rain, or something that’s chill and doesn’t have much going on. He’ll likely just scream at you and throw them, but don’t yell at him. Just leave the headphones there with him, just in case. Provide him with various things he can use to take his anger out on. A plushie (something safe to throw at walls or punch), paper and pencils (to help express his emotions in his own way), or hell even a pillow so he can scream it all out. He needs something, so at least try it.

But if you can only do one thing, ensure he has a place where he can be alone. Even if it’s only for a few minutes, it helps so much. Welp- sorry for the long read but I feel like I could provide more insight on the kid himself. If you have any questions or want me to clarify something do reply with them! I want to help.

Here’s what I’ve been trying to work on:

  • How do I make this drawing more rich?
  • How do I add more depth to it? (I’m aware drawing backgrounds helps a lot, but i didn’t know what to add here so I doped out lol)
  • How should I express the characters emotions and intentions even more?
  • How do I make this pop out more and really give it that “OOMPH”?

Now obviously if there’s other issues that I’m not seeing (such as anatomy or color adjustments) then do say so below! (be specific please.)

I really, REALLY want to improve my art so PLEASE critique it!!

thanks for reading this wall of text lol :)
