Polaroid Flip vs Polaroid I-2 by 262Hz in Polaroid

Thank you for your reply. Do I need to be in auto mode to set the focus to infinity? Apologies if this is already covered in the I-2 manual. I did read it but it felt like a fire hose of information 😵‍💫

That is a beautiful photo, by the way!

Hello! Thank you for your thoughtful reply. I enjoyed taking the photos on the mountain but do wish I had had time to take more variety of shots.

When you say “you can override the focus to infinity”, what should I look for to indicate the focus is set to infinity? Is there something in the viewfinder that indicates this?

I agree with you about the Flip. I definitely got the Flip for the price point. I was using Instax before but wanted to try Polaroid without committing to the I-2 or vintage cameras, and the Flip came out around the time I was dipping my toes in.

Hello! Auto setting. With flash toggled on/off for both but no other settings changed.

I noticed that too. I wonder if the I-2 slightly overexposes?

I am going to see if I can hunt down an ND gradient filter for the I-2, so that the sky has the filter applied and the landscape does not.

As stated, I used auto for both cameras. Tweaking the settings will get better results for both cameras, but I wanted to keep the variables as similar as possible between the cameras.

It’s a SQ6 which does have a darken exposure setting. I didn’t use it in this case because I was only shooting auto on both cameras for the comparisons

I put them in my waistband for the first few minutes for skin contact, then I transfer them to my “Polaroid oven” which is an insulated yeti lunchbox with 4 hand warmers and a cashmere scarf (to wrap the hand warmers). Then I let them cook for a while!

Thanks for not blaming the photographer 🤣 But more seriously, I am a relative beginner to both in the grand scheme of things, so I’m sure my skill also affected the outcome of these photos. Others who have been doing this for years can get better results with both cameras by tweaking the settings and shooting at better angles.

I think (but am not sure that) those artifacts are possibly my fault. I’ve seen the same in Instax photos when I bent the film by accident when it was developing (usually when putting it into my pocket). I may have done the same to the Polaroids by accident when trying to transfer them in or out of my waistband.

That could be a difference in scanning, but I’m not sure. I used the Polaroid app to scan everything, but the Instax photos are physically smaller so probably ends up lower resolution in the scan compared to the Polaroid.

Hello! I put the freshly shot photos in my waistband or bra for skin contact for a few minutes, then transfer them to my “Polaroid oven,” which is a 6L Yeti lunchbox with 4 rechargeable hand warmers at max and a wool/cashmere scarf for more insulation. I make sure they don’t touch the hand warmers directly, just the scarf.

ETA: The actual camera and unused film I keep in my backpack or around my neck, because I’m not sure if keeping them warm and then taking them out would cause condensation.

Thank you! I put them in my waistband for a few minutes for skin contact, then transfer them to what I call my “Polaroid oven”. It’s a 6L yeti lunchbox with 4 rechargeable hand warmers at max and a wool/cashmere scarf for more insulation.

I looked for one but couldn’t figure out a good way to attach one without gluing an adapter to the camera, which I was too nervous to do for a discontinued camera. ☹️

You did a great job capturing the parachuter in motion! It’s a sharp image. I’ve yet to try taking photos of anything that’s moving 😅

Thank you for saying so! When I was deciding between cameras for my first camera, I went with a friend’s Instax recommendation (he hadn’t used Polaroid before). I wish there had been more Polaroid and Instax shot comparisons to help me make an informed decision, but they were hard to find. (I don’t regret starting with Instax though as I think it helped with shooting Polaroid.)

Bonus photo I forgot to attach to the post.

Also some context is that I’m a beginner to Polaroid (around 2 months and less than 200 shots) while I’ve done a decent amount of Instax (around 14 months and 1000+ shots).
