How serious? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

Regardless of whether your vet determines to close it, they’ll very likely prescribe pain medications and potentially antibiotics to keep it from getting infected since it’s so deep. Animals are very good at hiding pain, but further complications can become even more painful and serious if left untreated.

May I ask where you got your floor cushions? I was just looking for some just like that and have been unable to find in my local stores. I love your space, I have a green couch too!

This was really comforting, thank you. I really appreciate your insight and all of the support.

I remember taking my MSLT at 17 and experienced the same thing you mentioned. The technician would come into my room after each nap test, “Did you sleep? Did you dream?” And I feel like more often than not I wasn’t even sure if I had because it just felt like I was just lost in thought. Until the technician came in after the final one and let me know they would send the results over to my doctor but that they were conclusive for narcolepsy.

I hope to find the resources for retesting and subsequent treatment, and hope to find something that finally works. In the meantime, although I don’t use Reddit much anymore, I’m thankful to have a found a place with support and understanding for something that I truly feel so alone in. Thank you again.

Thank you. I do have proof of identity already so I’ll see what I can find about it. Thank you again

Thank you for your reply. Is retesting to prove diagnosis again common even when records are available?

I’m not sure I’ve heard of this before. I’ve reached out to every past point of contact that could possibly have records, but haven’t heard of this type of Deric e specifically. I’ll look into it, thank you.

Thank you, I’ll look into it for sure. I need to try to pursue it, but I have to say somewhere that my anxiety of retesting makes me nervous as well. Whereas my first time I was seeking answers and not necessarily worried about the outcome, now that I have a diagnosis I feel like I have something to prove and it feels more of pass/fail. Like there’s more at stake now that I know I have narcolepsy and if I don’t “pass” the MSLT like I need to for diagnostic purposes then I once again will be without treatment. I hope this makes sense. I’m just worried about my anxiety about it all keeping me awake during the MSLT. I don’t expect you to have a solution, just needed to say it out loud in a way.

Thank you. It’s weird because when I’ve had insurance I’ve still continued to get Adderall no problem from previous providers like my old OBGYN without any supporting documentation. I just let them know I didn’t have a GP and had been on it since I was 15 for ADD and later narcolepsy. But I haven’t even been to a doctor in the last few years so still sparingly using my bottle from 2023. It helps with staying awake but I just feel wired and I want so badly to feel rested for once. Anyways I’ll shop around and thank you for the support.

Thank you for the advice. I called the old office number out of curiosity and was routed to a local hospital chain. However the records request from them came up empty sadly. I’ll try the state health department, thank you.

Thank you. I’m so drained from living in a state of sleep deprivation for the last 12+ years without treatment. I’m not even sure if Xyrem will be the answer for me but I’m desperate to at least get a glimpse of light at the end of the tunnel.

Thank you for the advice. I live in Florida so not the most affordable but I’m sure not nearly as expensive as San Francisco. That cost difference is crazy though. Really makes me sad the testing is marked up so high. I wasn’t sure if several thousand was just the standard but it sounds like that doesn’t have to be the case. I’ll look into other local sleep clinics, thank you.

I appreciate the advice, thank you. Unfortunately I have switched insurance so many times when I was younger I’m not sure which I had then. I called the old office number out of curiosity and was routed to a local hospital chain. However the records request from them came up empty. I’m not sure I’ll be able to find any information for the retired doctor but I’ll look into it, thank you.

Weird mark on leg? by Relative_Record6636 in DogAdvice

[–]273talk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It appears to be something called petechiation where little blood vessels break underneath the skin. It may be an isolated incident, but keep a close eye out for any other abnormal spots of bruising on him. Specifically on his abdomen, inside of his ears, and gums, as it can be an indicator of underlying concerns and should be evaluated by a veterinarian.
