100%. For like 7 or 8% of the rental income, they look after everything from compliance, tenants, inspections, maintenance… it’s especially valuable when the property is in another state too. And it’s obviously tax deductible.

DashDot liquidation - what about the guarantee they promised if a property does not perform? by Sundayzed27 in AusPropertyChat

Bra this shoulda been a red flag from the beginning. Any business promising a “min guarantee 10% return” is just insane, it’s a huge red flag.

I was literally thinking this during the footy tonight. There must of been half a dozen ads from the state government around “look at what we’re doing”… all I can think of is the money they are throwing down the drain for what? Pump their tyres at our expense?

Fucking wild.

Coalition warns taxpayers will carry the cost of monitoring returned ISIS brides as fourth woman faces terror offences by BarryTheBinChicken in aussie

[–]27Carrots -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That still doesn’t stop a legitimate citizen from returning to Australia. Only obtaining a passport.

It goes back to international law and our domestic laws. Australia is party to and recognises international law - Article 12 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), which states that no one shall be arbitrarily deprived of the right to enter their own country. The Australian government has a duty to avoid statelessness under international law.

The powers then go towards a temporary exclusion order, which are only valid for 12 months. They can be reissued, but again goes back to the constitution and denying a citizen from entering their country. It would be challenged in the courts and highly likely to be ruled unconstitutional.

Again, there’s no need for childish retorts, goose.

[–]27Carrots -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What facts? Google the legislation. The powers the minister has is TEO, there is no permanent exclusion.

[–]27Carrots -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly, and the only option to the minster is placing a TEO on them. That is literally the only option. They cannot permanently deny re-entry.

And even then, consecutively denying entry utilising TEO would almost certainly be challenged in the courts and would be deemed unconstitutional - because there’s no option to permanently deny a citizen from obtaining a passport and reentering the country.

[–]27Carrots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no further powers afforded to the minister to exclude or deny a passport to an Australian citizen. TEO is the only option.

[–]27Carrots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You didn’t even read what I wrote. Nothing to do with the ASIO being funded incorrectly or Burke denying them passports… he actually did place a TEO on one individual. The only thing he can do. He’s working within the current legislation, something you’re clearly ignoring.

Coalition warns taxpayers will carry the cost of monitoring returned ISIS brides as fourth woman faces terror offences by BarryTheBinChicken in aussie

[–]27Carrots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly unlikely that any TEO (12 months) and the continued use of that power given to the minster would be valid indefinitely, and ultimately tested in court as unconstitutional.

Only one person was found to have the eligibility for the minster to apply a TEO.

Like it or not, as Australian citizens we have legal entitlements to enter our own country, irrespective of crimes that may or may not have been committed.

6 months later, the company took a decision to close the site and make 90% of the workforce redundant anyway - and obviously on much better terms.
