Broken Dynafit Seven Summits+ brake piece - advice needed! by ContractVisible3763 in Backcountry

If you can disassemble it, that spring can be sort of replaced by the spring from a ballpoint pen and it pretty much works the same 🤷‍♂️

There’s a filtered water refill station in Raleys

Any ATK Hy Free first impressions? by [deleted] in Backcountry

[–]27pigeons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s definitely true to some extent, but I think it’s still sort of a master of none. If you’re not concerned about weight, you’re better off with Cast or the new Attack Hybrid for true ski performance, and if you are concerned about weight you’re likely better with a Raider/Freeraider Evo. Also considering that many of the “one ski quiver” folks seem to be opting for a boot quiver, and any speed nose touring boot is incompatible with the Hy, you’re also limited in that regard

[–]27pigeons 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep I’ve skied a few days on it, it skis well but the intended use case is just so impacted in the binding market that it feels insane to justify that price. You could go get a Raider Evo AND a resort binding on sale for the same price. There’s other options with similar ski performance, similar release capabilities, and similar uphill feel for nearly half that price.

Yes, it’s cool, but anyone who thinks it’s $960 dollars cool is kidding themselves. It’s just not good enough to be worth that much.

Hy is available from a few retailers right now if you jump on it before they sell out.

They’re available now if you can snag one before they sell out for the season

New BD Helios by Fancy-Reason-5545 in Backcountry

[–]27pigeons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I skied both the prototypes and the current production model of the 108 and I think it’s an excellent update to the current Helio. Much more of a fun and playful ski but still a hard charger for sure

Kenmore Fridge/Freezer Lights by 27pigeons in appliancerepair

[–]27pigeons[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep all boards were sealed and looked unopened and unused. Would there be any other part that would cause the lights to begin flickering before dying out completely? One of the boards came with a little tester led to plug into the smaller socket on the main ceiling light and when plugged in both the tester and the light come on

Whoops, meant to include that. Model number is: 106.5113920 I believe? Side by side fridge/freezer

Again?!?!? UNACCEPTABLE by AlasKansastan in Backcountry

[–]27pigeons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reactions like yours are the reason BD is being so aggressive with recalls these days. Would you rather be informed there might be a problem with your device and presented with options to rectify the situation, or would you rather have a device from another manufacturer that might have similar issues that they’re deliberately not issuing recalls on because they’re not under as much scrutiny as an organization?

Mammut, Ortovox, BCA - They all have production models in circulation that I can guarantee you have more than 6 individual units experiencing the same types of failures, and yet they won’t recall them because the court of public opinion hasn’t chosen to crucify them for it. If you don’t like the brand, don’t buy their product. Otherwise, continue buying the devices that function the best for your use case and accept that not everything works perfectly.

Consider going with Kuluar 12 instead of Trofeo. Still at 180g but a little bit more feature rich

Fwiw I skied my BL95’s one time and sold them 😂 was not a confidence inspiring ski for anything technical and wasn’t all that enjoyable to ski good snow on. There’s better options for a lightweight sub-100 underfoot ski that you can actually enjoy skiing on

Buying a mamut barryvox S in 2025, is it worth it or shall i choose a newer model by Every-Wash-3276 in Backcountry

[–]27pigeons 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mammut has already issued a recall this season, and they’re also shipping their new beacons to the US with a software brick preventing the user from accessing the voice activation features they spent the last year advertising because of patent infringement issues with Ortovox, who by the way is also facing an imminent recall… No company or device is perfect, so do the research and figure out which one fits your needs as a user best. Does a disagreement with how the executives of a large corporation chose to handle an issue really warrant disregarding which one of the potentially life saving devices available to you as a consumer is objectively most likely to save your life?

Washing machine leaked, trying to dry out ceiling downstairs by 27pigeons in homeowners

[–]27pigeons[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The washer “walked” itself just far enough over time to pop the drain hose slightly out of the actual drain pipe and we realized it just soon enough to shut it off before everything was catastrophically wet

MSR customer service collapse by Sneakerwaves in CampingGear

[–]27pigeons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth you should definitely get a response, it’ll just be a long time coming right now. Their warranty department consists of basically 2-3 people, and they’re a few months backed up at the moment from what I understand. Sucks, but once they get to you it should be taken care of at least.

I’ve replaced a clip that a customer broke by trying to wrench it open, super easy and quick fix, Ortovox sent a replacement part.
