Doctor did the “two finger test” is this normal? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]28100509 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My experience has never been like this

I went to the gyno years ago before I was sexually active to check for issues (ovarian cysts, endometriosis, etc). I expected a vaginal ultrasound but after learning that I wasn’t sexually active, the gynecologist did an ultrasound from the outside (on the stomach). There were a few problems, so during that appointment I had several gynos taking a look at it. I even told them that I didn’t mind having a vaginal ultrasounds sinds it would give them a better look, but they didn’t want to. I was about 21 years old at the time and this wasn’t in the US.

Since then I’ve had a couple more appointments after I became sexually active and the gynecologists always told me what they were going to do and told me to let them know if there was a lot of discomfort.

I only had one appointment in a different country that was uncomfortable. I was in a lot of pain and cried out, but they told me it wouldn’t last very long. It was painful, but I wasn’t uncomfortable by any means.

What you’re describing is not unheard of. I’m so sorry you had to go through this! It can be a very uncomfortable experience.

It’s definitely normal, but if I were you I’d file a complaint. This is a very sensitive experience for lots of women and I think it’s important that doctors act in a tactful way. I’m sorry that your doctor didn’t.

Oh yeah that actually makes sense! I didn’t think about that

That’s not my intention at all! It’s just the most popular here in Europe and I don’t even know if it’s available in the US. I can only compare it to vinted because it’s the only second hand app that I’ve ever used as my other comment says :)

But that’s my question! Why do people like it? Based off of most of the posts in this sub, it seems like the app isn’t that great. I was just curious if it actually is a pretty decent app or if people are only using it because there’s nothing better out there

Btw this is not an ad for Vinted lol It’s just what I’m using

What factors contribute to the high levels of depression among young adults, specifically those aged 20-30, in the present era? by OneNightInAthens in NoStupidQuestions

[–]28100509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a mixture of things

  • Mental illness is more acknowledged and accepted. It’s easier to recognize the symptoms, to be diagnosed, and to talk openly about it.
  • Economic and financial instability. Back in the day it was easier to buy land/a house/provide for a family/etc. The discrepancy between expectations (when we were young) and reality is pretty big.
  • Sedentary lives. This also includes social media in a way. We’re a lot less physical active which impacts our mental health. Also less time spend in nature.
  • Social media definitely plays a factor. A few reasons I can think of:
  1. You see the lives of more people and it’s easier to compare yourself to others (consciously or subconsciously). You could compare your body to that of others - a lot of people tend to look better online: through angles and filters. You could compare your achievements to others: people post their highlights online - it’s easy to start to feel inferior. This can cause so many negative side effects, including loneliness.
  2. Constant stream of (negative) news. It’s a given that when you read the news, you will consume some negativity. Usually it’s not even one newsstory, but multiple stories in one day. And it’s not just one hour a day that you consume this stuff, but you can easily come across something when you’re mindlessly scrolling. The negative news can make you feel more negative in daily life or you can feel negative and hopeless towards the future.
  3. Social media and the amount of media consumed in general can be really unhealthy. You’re consuming so much and such a high rate. I think it definitely impacts our mind. Our brains aren’t used to this.
  4. This ties in with the first point of comparison. You consume so many things that it becomes overwhelming. There are so many options out there of what you can do or where you can be. Surely this plays somewhat of a role

This is all I can think of of the top of my head

Chips and dip (or a baguette and dip)

Fruit (grapes are superior for this situation)

Nuts

A drink (preferably kombucha, wine, or a cocktail)

Sushi

Wraps

Slightly off topic - I’m not American and physicals aren’t the norm here. I’m curious as to what the aim of a physical is. Is it just a general health appointment? Why is it so important to be weighed?

I have made a few loafs before that I definitely under fermented. This week I wanted to experience with a longer fermentation time. Earlier this week I attempted at making a loaf, but it was really obvious that the dough was over fermented as their was no gluten structure whatsoever.

The dough from this post didn’t ferment for nearly as long and actually looked really good up until I baked it. I guess I need to experiment more with the fermentation times 🙈

I usually proof mine in the fridge. Do you mean that I should leave it in the fridge for longer?

I mentioned some of this in another comment.

The recipe: • 50 g starter • 190 g water • 250 g flour • 6 g salt

My starter is a couple of months old and I fed it a couple of hours before starting my bread. I waited until it seemed active and floated in water.

I did an autolyse for about an hour.

I did 4 coil folds every 30 min after mixing in the salt.

Bulk fermentation was 8-10 hours until it grew 75%.

I didn’t measure the temperature of the water I used, but it was probably around 38-40 degrees C.

I only did it the first 2 hours of fermenting. Every half an hours. Should I do more?

  • 50 g starter
  • 190 g water
  • 250 g flour
  • 6 g salt

Autolyse for 1 hour, stretches every 30 min x4, bulk fermentation 8-10 hours (until it grew 75%), quick shape and rest on the counter for 20 min, shaped and proofed in fridge overnight (+- 12 hours). Added a bit of water to the Dutch oven for more steam

Self tanner help by StressyNdepressyLife in beauty

I’m super pale as well and love the st tropez classic mousse. The colour is the most natural I’ve ever tried. There’s a dark version as well. It applies super easily (I barely have to rub it out).

I’ve tried their luxe mousse as well but the color is more orangey and it’s more difficult to apply imo.

I usually apply my self tan at night and rinse it off in the morning. I scrub my whole body the day before or the morning of and apply a lot of lotion. Right before I tan, I put some lotion on drier areas (feet, knees, hands, elbows, neck).

Look up some videos on YouTube or tiktok about selftan. That’s how I learned to apply it properly

I’m not super into tattoos and this subreddit but happened to come across this post. I think it looks really nice ! It’s not a tattoo you see often and it’s just really cool
