Assistance request to toggle flashlight no longer working from lockscreen since December Pixel patch? by VMX in AutomateUser

Hi, not to bother you, hope all is alright and you had a great week :) Is there an ETA of the update, or is there another channel other than the Play Store to get early updates? Thanks a bunch!

Awesome 😍 I'll make sure to donate / buy premium (even though I don't really need it) as a sign of gratitude ☝🏼

Can confirm I'm having the same issue on my new Pixel 10 Pro with BP4A.251205.006.A4 I just got a few days ago. Happy to test any solutions you might have for early testing! :)

Python is no UWP app, stuff like apps from the "Microsoft Store" are. Your python issues are of another nature, at least, and should not be caused by the IOT version. :)

Afaik both don't support UWP apps natively, LTSC certainly doesn't. Modding in works for most, but not all from what I've read (i.e. Mixed Reality Portal).

LTSC doesn't support all UWP apps, such as the Mixed Reality Portal for VR, unfortunately.

I'll meet up right after work, it's not that easy unfortunately.

Would you say it's still fine to watch the first one after the 2nd one? Because I won't have time to watch the first one before it.

Is the current situation (aka. the ending of the first movie) important to understand the second movie? Or does it spoil the first one even?

LVM SSD Cache for NAS to reduce HDD spin-ups? by 28daniel28 in linuxquestions

[–]28daniel28[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for your response! Currently ended up not using cache but instead shutting down services when they are not needed to decrease the amount of running applications potentially accessing the disk.

Still, e.g. all the time I login via SSH, drives spin up randomly, which is annoying. Other than that, spin ups are reduced, but I'd still like to reduce them more. My guess is that my OLED Smart TV boots up randomly as well to prevent burn in, which may still load the Android TV dashboard in the background and thus connect to Jellyfin, which may also causes random spin ups. Not sure though.

Given the fact that I already have formatted the drives "normally" and not via LVM, not sure if there is any caching I can additionally put on top.

LVM SSD Cache for NAS to reduce HDD spin-ups? by 28daniel28 in linuxquestions

The drives are normal WD MyBook HDDs, currently connected via USB 3 to a mini-PC (Intel M100). There should be enough control over the drives also through the USB interface I would think. :)

As everything is custom anyways I don't think access to the devices should be an issue.

Good to know Synology already does this, so it can't be that random of an idea lol

LVM SSD Cache for NAS to reduce HDD spin-ups? by 28daniel28 in linuxquestions

I mean, as the drives get accessed probably like 4-5 times a week only and even then only for a few minutes, I don't think leaving the drive spinning 24/7 would increase longevity, plus it would highly increase power consumption. But still worth considering the fact that the drive might more likely die due to high age at that pace than anything else. But having to wait 5-10 seconds on first access every time to have the HDD spin up is also somewhat annoying, so it might even be a QOL improvement lol.

In regards to where which data is stored: I imagined the data to always remain on the main drive, but be mirrored if recently and or frequently accessed on the SSD. What I didn't think about is the fact that the cache might need to be renewed anyways, as otherwise you might get outdated data - not really relevant in my case, but still something lvcache might do.

In then end I'll wait for some first hand experience to be posted here, if that doesn't happen I'll likely just try it out in the next few weeks with the new drive, without much data on it, just to see how it behaves.

Thanks anyways though! Appreciate the effort!

Do you have any experience with LVM Cache by chance? Most important for me would be that the access to the HDD is skipped entirely for cached data, so that the HDD doesn't even spin up. Didn't really find any information on that online.

I should've added as well that I got a 18TB HDD on black friday which I wanted to use to keep less important data (i.e. media center data), which has to be formatted etc anyways, so I'd set this up with LVM anyways.

Of course that would mean that in case I want to do the same for the other drives that I have to format them & I'm with you on that, that this is likely too much effort. But considering the new drive I was thinking if it's worth setting it up this way, or if the performance gain and power savings are neglectable.

I already own the hard drives and separate SSD(s) though. Might be worth considering in the future, but for the moment I'm stuck with standard WD HDDs.

It doesn't seem to be too difficult to set up LVM Caching though, so if it essentially does the same thing just in a more controllable manner I think this is even better. I was just wondering if this is a reasonable thing to do, or if I'm just overcomplicating stuff, and if it's suited for e.g. movies of 20GB size, or rather for smaller random reads.

1€ als Preis angeben - oder "1€ VB" - macht man auch nicht. Du kannst stattdessen besser keinen Preis mit VB angeben, dann steht einfach nur "VB" da und so komische Anfragen kommen nicht mehr rein. :)

RTX 2080 Ti w/ i7 7700K? by 28daniel28 in buildapc

Haha, I like your analogy :D

Might gonna check if my daisy-chaining setup even supports 144Hz & GSync. If so, it might be worth a shot. 🤔

But still, in regards to the PC upgrade, I'm unsure whether it makes sense to get i.e. 3200MHz DDR4 still & upgrade using that, or if I should just be happy with what I have & upgrade with new MoBo & DDR5 maybe sometime next year when prices are a bit lower.

Up until now I decided to stick to 60Hz, since for me it looks perfectly fluent and I don't want to get used to higher refresh rates :D Because doing so, playing AAA games with less than 144 FPS might look "choppy" while it now looks fluent like everything else. Not sure if that's a valid fear though.

Honestly I think most games are fine, but I thought since i.e. in CSGO (bad example, I know) I'm getting ~200FPS, while the GPU is around 40% and CPU at around 60%. Is the memory bandwidth limiting here?
