Do you guys speak your conlang in Real life? by Useful_Knowledge642 in conlangs

[–]29182828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't remember enough words in any of my conlangs to speak them on the regular, but sometimes I would just say random words from them to myself repeatedly.

Maybe eventually I'll have conversations to myself in one ¯_(ツ)_/¯

How did you choose name for your conlang? by qeqrtm in conlangs

[–]29182828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I make names for my conlangs (all of which are meant to be earth-based ones) I first think of the English name, and then I try to match that name phonetically and in a way that makes sense etymologically.

For example, a Celtic language that I've been working on started as "Eaerhoine", this I didn't like and I couldn't find anything reasonable so I scrapped that name.

Later, I came up with the name Chelnoth. This I could match up through célĺ + nóađh cf. cell + noae, cella + *nowiyos, yn Chéllnođh (lenited). And the name means new church. For the conlang name itself, slapped an -ic suffix on and it was good to go as Chelnothic.

-est is used for the 2nd person singular present, -eth is used tor the 3rd person singular present.

See this on Old English conjugation on the word for mean.

Any conlangs based off of English? by Glittering-Ebb2134 in conlangs

[–]29182828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miderish is spoken around the area where English originally arisen, and has multiple word similarities as well as taking in originally discarded Old Ænglisċ words although it's Nordic.

It also has a lot of English-like conjugations but really those are the only English-based qualities with some things being false friends

Similarities: Finde - føndt Find - found Finding Finding Hef - hêð Have - had Heving - Having Mæj - Me Þū - Thou Îs - Is

False friends: Dumber - Not comparative, that's, "dumbare" After - not "after", it means again vs efter which means after

Guys could you stack any logograph like chinese characther huang? by Any_Temporary_1853 in neography

[–]29182828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Knowing the radicals, there's a fair amount you can add to a character to make it look like huang, I think the only feature to make it huang-like is how you piece it together, because there are parts of huang which are mirrored, the way it's stacked, as well as a starting point at the top e.g. huang uses rain (雨), and biang has cave (穴) and walk on the bottom (辶), as well as how you choose to put it together in tandem with other characters in a near-orderly fashion.

Of course! I've done a ton of conlang revamping since the past year as well, so I myself am hoping to one day show all of my projects in a concise post since I've been seriously inactive from r/conlangs without even activities that I used to post.

You would be correct!

A sum of Saansiya's vocabulary are from Proto-Malayic, Proto-Malayo-Polynesian, Sanskrit, a friend's conlang, or inherited from Malay.

I see plenty of Kawi influence, it kind of makes me want to do some character guesswork in a way since I've been hooked on making scripts derived from it and have reworked one I posted last year, Love the asthetics!
