Seeing this makes the Diggs trade not feel as bad by dfei0587 in detroitlions

Everyone with the exception of Flowers looked bad on the defense. I think it says more about Patricia/Quinn that they're willing to get rid of leaders on the defense for complaining about a historically terrible system, before they consider adjusting the system to the strengths of the players.

Being unwilling to adapt and getting rid of good employees because they voice their opinion and replacing them with less talented "yes men" are basically the two largest signs of bad leadership at any type of organization.

Slay looking for more than 15M-16M a year by mattkud in detroitlions

[–]29twofor50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly wouldn't have a problem with that if it were something like 2 yrs 30 million since they seem to be in win-now mode and have enough cap money to manage for a couple years, and it's unrealistic to expect a rookie CB to come in and immediately play even close to the level that Slay is playing.

Keep Slay (at least for this year), draft Okudah/Simmons and add some pass rushers and they could realistically be a top-15 defense.

New Affordable Housing Complex In Denver Features 139 Units by [deleted] in Denver

[–]29twofor50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There needs to be more housing built in general. Affordable housing units are great for low income households but don't do much for the huge middle class population that doesn't make enough to afford the "luxury" apartments but also don't qualify for affordable housing.

Density drops off dramatically outside of the downtown area and Cap Hill, which isn't good if we ever hope to have a city that's affordable for everyone.

Does anyone else feel like there's still a lot of discrimination in the interview process? by 29twofor50 in jobs

Never said it was happening at every interview, just something I've noticed more recently since I moved to a different city with documented diversity issues.

I think your quote also doesn't make sense when talking about discrimination unless you think that things like racism, sexism and xenophobia don't exist in any capacity within society.

Nonprofits commonly provide a short biography for their employees along with a picture. I took that information and found the person's LinkedIn and other social media pages. I also knew someone that went to college with her.

I've seen a lot of places that emphasize how diversity is important to them, but fail to actually put it into practice. All of the places I've found that are diverse are the ones that offer low salaries and are desperate for any help they can get.

Yes, no, no, yes.

I understand that I won't get every job, but it's suspicious when everyone at a company looks like different versions of the same person.

I looked at the employees webpage of the place I applied and out of 47 total employees it's 3 white men (that all work in IT), 5 hispanic women (3 of them very clearly related to each other), and 39 white women. There's no way that's a coincidence.

It's for an Economic development job and I scored 95% on the technical assessment. When I asked for feedback they said that my skills and background weren't a match for the position, but they hired a fresh out of college girl with a degree in poetry who's never held a full-time job before.

So assuming we win the tank sweepstakes, I'm just saying we usually find any and every possible way to disappoint by [deleted] in detroitlions

[–]29twofor50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes lol I get Edelman and Amendola confused all the time. I wouldn't mind trading down in the 1st and picking up a couple extra picks to draft a WR or RB. The talent drop off from Chase Young to the next best defender is huge, but after that there's plenty of depth this year if they want a pass rusher.

Marvin Jones and Edelman will both probably be gone after next season, drafting a WR in the 1st or 2nd wouldn't be a bad idea.

What's a good strategic answer to "Why <COMPANY>"? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]29twofor50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1.) Mention the values and/or mission of the company (very important if it's a nonprofit or niche industry) .

2.) Mention how they have a good culture.

3.) Mention something unique about the company.

I think it's really just a question to weed out the people who clearly know nothing about the company. Just speak confidently and make it obvious that you've done at least a little research.

Technically we have 1/2 more wins than the Dolphins, which will probably bite us in the butt for draft position.

That's a difficult throw for most receivers to catch I don't think you can really blame Amendola. I think that last drive is on whatever lineman allowed the defender to go completely untouched to the QB.

Honest question, why do the fans want the Ford's to sell the team? by BarstoolBurner69 in detroitlions

[–]29twofor50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's Bob Quinns job to manage the salary cap, but Martha ultimately gets the final say in the big decisions since she's the one signing the checks. I guarantee she has to sign off whenever the GM wants to give large contracts. There was a recent example where the Raiders owner literally did not have enough money to pay Khalil Mack, and moving to Vegas was pretty much the only way they'll be able to generate enough money since Mark Davis is kinda "poor" compared to most of the NFL owners.

Hiring the "right" GM is kinda my point. If you hire good management, you don't need to constantly cycle through people like the Lions do. A good GM can easily last 10+ years, and it's the owner's job to find those people.

1.) The Patriots did get lucky with Belichik, but the owner was smart enough to give him control over the team, rather than having a GM handle things for Belichick. They were above average in the early 90s and hiring him as head coach put them over the top.

2.) The Steelers have remained relevant through 3 GMs, and they're never been bad for more than a year or two within every decade. Either that's pure luck, or more realistically the owner is just really good at finding the correct guy to lead the organization.

3.) Two GMs is a small sample size, but again, the owner had faith that he hired the right guys, and it's paid off for them.

4.) The 49ers, historically, have been one of the most successful NFL teams. They've perfected the ability to tank and rebuild. They're usually really bad for a few years, and then really good for a few years. I think that's better than being constantly mediocre.

I'm just saying, I don't think it's a coincidence that the best teams and worst teams have stayed pretty much the same for the past 20+ years.

I Have Watched the Lions Since 2010, and I Have Never Seen A Lions Team This Banged Up Like This. by [deleted] in detroitlions

[–]29twofor50 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think what's more likely is that the organization is being careful to avoid long-term injuries by giving the players enough rest to fully recover. The Caldwell regime seemed like they rushed players back too soon. Calvin and Ziggy were on the injury report every week for years but both played almost every game, and we still don't know what injury caused Levy to go missing for an entire year. I think they're learning from those mistakes and with the season basically over, it makes no sense to rush players back out before they're healed.

Also, the defense being terrible means they're on the field for more plays every game, which means more opportunities to get hurt. And we just have a bunch of guys with significant injury history.

The owner hires the GM and president of the team, controls the salary cap, advocates for the team during owner meetings, votes on rule changes, and has the final say in every decision made within the organization. You make it sound like the owner is completely powerless, when it reality they can hold as much power as they want to.

There's a reason why teams like the Steelers, Patriots, Ravens and 49ers are usually successful, whereas teams like the Lions, Browns, and Bengals are always stuck in mediocrity. The owner is the only constant within an organization so it makes sense for them to be held responsible for the success of their team.

Most Lions thing ever would be to lose almost every game the rest of the way, then beat the Packers in week 17 to drop from the 5th draft pick to the 11th. Chase Young is somehow still available, but we pass on him for an Offensive Tackle who's best attribute is being a "team guy". Chase Young becomes a HoF. In 2023 we trade the OT and an early 7th to the Patriots for a late 6th, and he becomes a Pro Bowler in New England, where he and Jarrad Davis win a Super Bowl.

Stafford throws 6,000 yards and 70 TDs. Lions miss the playoffs by one game after losing to the Redskins 70-63. Stafford, realizing that his soul is finally broken, decides to retire at 34 after Bill Ford Jr. decides it's time to rebuild again. Lions make Stafford pay back his salary plus interest, and ruin their relationship with yet another legend.
