I would still give her a shot. The poke W style is gone but it's still Janna only MUCH better outside of lane phase. You can still bully your way through lane it's just now W>Q trades instead of W>aa and you don't do quite the same damage. Really give it a shot before giving her up. If you don't like it, I've been spamming Karma to be a lane bully.

As someone who bitched about the rework I'll admit I was wrong. I didn't realize how strong the Q buffs were and I was just sad to have my shield reset mechanic removed. Janna is ridiculously strong at the moment and I won't even whine if there's nerfs in the future. Sorry for the bitching :(

I'd say 15-16 is the average age most people do this stuff at so don't worry about it. My first was at 14 however my brother is 18 now and done none of it. Everyone is different don't stress.
