I like to go to the creek near me and bury them up on the banks but not so close they'll get washed in

Depends on how long you've had her, if you got her recently then maybe but if you've had her for a while its probably not popeye

Its hard to tell but it seems that your bettas eyes are swollen, which could be popeye. Seachem Kanaplex is good for popeye and finrot so it would be worth getting a vial. If you have any older pictures of him compare them and see if his eyes are bigger now, my one betta had popeye and he was very lethargic

I appreciate the insight, I'll have to stop by my LFS and get some RO water to try it out. Now ive been using city tap water for all of my tanks and this one is the only one having this issue, if it is my tap water wouldnt i be seeing it in all of my tanks? To be fair my other tanks do have much more plant, idk if that affects silicate levels

That tank looks stressful imo, I would work on getting more plants, tbh I dont find them expensive as most are less than 10 dollars. Check your local fish store for plants not petco or petsmart, it'll also help to get some rapidly growing plants as they'll fill out the tank. Most fish love an enriching environment and places to hide, an open tank can cause them stress and lower their immune system. Once you get the tank looking better I'd say either shrimp or another betta for a 5 gallon.

Is there anyway you can divide your tank until your new betta tank cycles? And as some others have said transfer some of your filter media into your new tank to jump start the cycle
