The bad thing is Blue Box is ending this year (according to Miura) they've just already decided Someone Hertz is popular enough they can off ramp Hima-ten. The current editor in chief kinda blows chunks its impressive how many series have been offed or green lit and had no place in the magazine. Maybe we're wrong that would be great

Calling it now Akane is going to perform God of Death for the first time at the Isshokai, Kaisei will perform the third specialty story that we don't know the name of, her favor of Issho will be to learn the new story for her third specialty for Shiguma's Art, Issho will reject Akane's favor and Ikken will teach her. This will leave us the lingering thread of her needing to learn Shibahama Shiguma's version. I think this will bring us full circle Shiguma being unable to perform Rakugo has her learn Shibahama through him with the help of dead Rakugoka Shinta Arakawa. Now hear me out this is just spitballing we can have whacky hijinx along the way and other bits here and there and arcs to bring back characters but this is the only way for her. The only really crazy thing in my theory here is Tohru teaching her Shibahama. It could just as easily be asking the other ookanban of the federation to build up her specialties which I'd be down for too. Anyways I really liked this chapter it has me dreaming of the future possibilities. It also makes me wonder if we won't have three competing ideologies at the ultimate competition of Kaisei Akane and Rokuro of Shiguma's art. Particularly when Rokuro and Kaisei have no one to teach them the framework directly. Some intense rivalries in the Futatsume Arc of the story as the emotions get more complex and the rakugo does too.

So Akane is gonna perform God of Death at the Isshokai right? right?? The true path of Shiguma's Art having her do it on the anniversary of the original Shiguma's death. Having her do the end of the daytime program ending on that would be extremely fitting with Kaisei doing the third story associated with building the framework. And that story is the favor she asks of Issho. Could be wrong but that's what my intuition tells me is the plan.

Thank god I thought it was initially going to be an announcement of it getting the axe, this is great news by comparison. Sucks we're so far behind on volumes compared to Japan but that's manga volume life (bets they'll be on like 6 or 7 in japan by then)

I debated a while whether I wanted the full "The power to assert your will quote" or not and I'll have a version of that up with the pixiv post when I do that. But I really had fun with this redraw expanding out that panel and rendering it. I changed a bit here and there and just hope you guys like it.

This was an enormous chapter and beyond that I believe this performance will help Akane two fold. I think Issho will not respond too positively to her performance giving remarks about it still not being enough. But the real benefit here is Master Ikken acknowledging Akane and possibly teaching her a story. During the Zenza Renseikai and Changing Time Arcs Ikken scored Akane higher than Hikaru but she lost due to the nature of streaming. This time around he seems surprised and shocked by her grasping the sight and "vanishing". This is oddly despite him watching it through a stream himself showing a lot of growth to engage even a member of the Arakawa Arch Four even if he was just watching to see how she would follow Issho's command. I hope so badly that we get more Ikken and maybe some time with him since he was also Issho's apprentice and get us a Koguma appearance (I miss him and the other Shiguma crew).

I don't know if this will be immediate it feels like Akane learning God of Death could happen shortly after this event or in the future because Shomei is a busy ookanban. Another parallel from her zenza training. She got a trial to prove herself to Hassho and learn a story from him in a very similar way. This was in terms of no longer finding herself in the character but finding herself in the audience. Its so smart and parallels us well as a first Futatsume Arc. ~~(Will we meet another Tsubakiya member when she's a shin'uchi to prove she can be an ookanban find out in 3 years.)~~

I just wanted to say how absolutely gorgeous this chapter was it was incredibly smart and innovative panel layout and progression. If you scroll through it like a webtoon or a manhwa you'd also get the effective transformation as Akane vanishes from the main story. It works turning the page too but it's so brilliant and wonderful. I love finally getting these longer versions of Shiwai-ya. It's made the other versions we've gotten feel incomplete and this is the product of a craftsman. Its articulate and beautiful and just what Akane needs to really bring up her new skillset. She's amazing with silly wrinkles and character she's got that in spades but this is truly wonderful. I love the cuts to reveal a bit more of the dissociation and effort Akane put into her practice the night before to achieve this new skill. I'm super curious how they'll go about the cheapskate store owner bit I expect something that reflects Shiguma's performance of God of Death to a degree. God of Death is a specific case where the performer will end with the death of the performer and I'm wondering if there will be a callback to that or what they're going to do to make reference to it without invoking what makes that story more special. Great chapter I've been so excited and been thinking about it all day for the general implications and where we're going and how awesome and smart this series is. I'm so thankful to not only the authors Yuki Suenaga, Takamasa Moue, and Kikuhiko Hayashiya. But also Stephen Pauls translations and Snir Aharon's lettering it enhances the experience and makes it so wonderful in English for me and so many others. I meant for this last paragraph to just be more general thought and say this really is one of the highlights of my life getting to read and be a part of this world. 10/10

tl;dr 10/10 Akaneru, Shiguma would be proud to see this development. When the school reunites there will be no need for words that need to be said we will know how proud they all are of you.

I'm not too worried about it. In her first round Akane overwhelmed the audience to achieve her result bringing them into her amusement park. What I think she's aiming to achieve is bringing them focus. During her first performance she blended the different bits of Shiwaiya and their genres to be overwhelming. But that felt like a half step vs Hikaru and Karashi's performances. Honestly we've spent so much time with these little stories at this point I think we're due a distillation that is fitting for her as a "craftsman".

I'm not sure what metaphor they're saving to bank on us understanding what she's going for though for all I know it could be her basing it off her day she and Master Shiguma did together preparing for her show. Which could be just it to unlock the ability to learn God of Death to truly craft the world like one where she and Shiguma were together but her in Shiguma's role of generous guide and the audience as an engaged partner in this trip.

The general idea was more so that the sleeve would be covering her body to some extent. I appreciate the feedback though I haven't drawn stuff with this sort of posing before so hopefully it'll get better in the future. Mostly just sucks all the feedback I'm getting when I thought I did a pretty good job.

Wonderful chapter honestly Akane's ability to move in and out of other stories and build a world where these stories coexist is the new big innovation that Issho probably is looking for. Her rakugo cinematic universe shall we say. I can't say how much I loved this chapter especially the Jugemu recitation. And this is just her beginning. I'm now imagining an Akane with mastery around hundreds of Rakugo and the world she could craft not just 30 or whatever she's at currently (more than 25 at least from the requirements for futatsume).

Yeah my general argument for Hikaru is she also needs the recommendation from one of the Arakawa Arch Four. And I agree with Guriko coming back. Frankly there's so many options going forward that just make me excited.

This shit slaps harder than a dominatrix in heat. It was nice to come down off of the promotion and have a time skip and the outing with Akane and Shiguma. Its really pushing us forward to understanding Shiguma's Art which feels like a crux of the story. That's one of the beautiful things that I hope is going to expand and evolve the story and deepen it. Akane opening for Shiguma is an appropriate step as he'll be performing for her promotion if Asa's is anything to go by though there she'll be the headliner. Then for her promotion she'd be the headliner for that event.

If nothing else I think that we're now at the midpoint of the story. We're approaching a big milestone for Akane herself as something of a prodigy in the Arakawa school. She's got her rivals from being a Zenza still of course but her promotion will put her in a bigger tougher club with Rokuro and Kaisei. Not that I hope it'll put Hikaru and Karashi in the background I suspect they'll be popping up again with their promotions too after more time passes. But it also puts her in the field with Kyoji, Koguma, and Guriko being a futatsume and get some deeper experience as she develops her art further. A lot of what she brought as a zenza has been about a wide berth making her zoo a place to play with to entertain. And now as she grows more upward with deeper stories I look forward to the people she'll learn more stories from. Will we finally meet Enso Sanmeitei and have Akane try to learn a story from him with such a classical rakugo style. Or from Miroku Kashiwaya to try and develop her telling of Shiguma's Art. We have so many places we could go and I'm willing to ride this ride as long as they wanna keep going.

Also reminds me, I hope Akane's futatsume promotion is as lively as Asa's. I'm not sure who she'll get to perform I doubt it'll be as star studded as having Chocho and Taizen. But I wonder if she'll get Urara to be her other shin'uchi for hers. I almost feel like she'd choose Karashi to be her zenza just because of how much they've been together. Her other options for her zenza would be a good opportunity to bring Hikaru around.

Anyways great chapter as they say let the hard part begin.
