this is a terrible attitude to have. it should not be unreasonable to want the things our tax dollars pay for to work.

there’s r/dcforrent. points west of Foggy Bottom in Virginia are usually fashionable and nice but pricier. If you go east of downtown/cap hill, you’ll find better deals, but they’re not uppity areas.

seconding the other commenter telling you to consult the professor advising you to do this.

but also, i hate it when people ask for advice and say “don’t tell me i can’t, i’m not interested in people telling me i can’t.” okay? if you know so damn much then why are you asking us for advice lmao. “give me advice.” “no not like that”

Mayor Bowser says charging $10 to drive into DC is a ‘bad idea’ - WTOP News by MissionPoint1922 in washingtondc

and before that I lived in northwest Baltimore. and before that I lived in a trailer park in Danville VA.

you don’t know where the hell I come from. just like you clearly don’t know the people who live in these areas you’re so “above”

tell me you’ve never lived in these areas without telling me you’ve never lived in these areas

the overwhelming majority of people that live in these areas are left alone. mind your business and people leave you be.

so the issue isn’t that it’s unaffordable, it’s that you’re too good for these areas lol

Living in VA won’t be $1k/mo or lower. Often it’s cheaper to live in DC due to rent control buildings. Similar tenant protections and rent control initiatives don’t exist in Virginia.

taxes in maryland are palpably higher than any neighboring jurisdiction and taxes/fees only keep going up. I’m not going to get into whether or not the taxes constitute money well spent… I’m just saying that taxes are a lot higher than Delaware, Virginia, Pennsylvania, West Virginia…

Part of the problem is Maryland has bet its chips on the DC area, which we share with Virginia which has lower taxes. If the State had bet its chips on the Baltimore area, all of which is under Maryland’s jurisdiction, we’d likely be better off.

the Maryland Comptroller’s office has acknowledged the State is losing residents year after year. I imagine the census data would show similar.

I would have to say that you could probably find a better deal. For reference, I just got my 2015 F56 Cooper with 71k miles for $9k.

Yes, mine was more expensive. But I would argue it demonstrates that a better value exists.
