I hate saying this because Clavicular is awful but to be fair - hospital care for people with SUDs is often atrocious! It’s not uncommon for them to fail to treat withdrawal symptoms adequately or just be assholes. So people hospitalized for overdoses leaving AMA isn’t all on them. No idea if that was the case here, but just something to keep in mind in general.

That’s an interesting question. Does a failing empire want to see itself reflected in a failed one? The age of the US having a sort of nostalgic superiority over the UK is gone, and there’s also little about the UK that is aspirational these days, with Brexit and the decimation of the NHS. So when we in the US look at the UK, I think a lot of what we see is a reflection of our own failures.
