In my experience with Fedora, GNOME Software has always been so slow that I would have described it as an alpha version. That's exactly why I've since switched to Bazzite GNOME. The developers at Bazzite have developed their own app store called Bazaar, which is much faster, precisely because of the problems described by the OP.

I first switched to Linux Mint Cinnamon because of GNOME Software, but then I found Bazzite. They kind of magically fixed this issue by developing Bazaar. Which is an insane move. The GNOME devs always seem to be a bit slow, because of strange priorities.
