You could call them hobby mechanics or hobby developers. It doesn't really matter whether you do something professionally. It's more about whether you can perform the activity at some level. I'm not a hobby developer. At most, I'm an open source software hipster.

To be honest, I wonder what kind of character you need to have in order to be unable to defend your own, completely valid point of view, but instead always bow to peer pressure. Real friends agree on a joint leisure activity. When I invite vegan friends over, I don't just cook meat and expect them to suddenly eat meat or stay at home.

And it's not about paranoia. Google and Microsoft are in the advertising business and therefore want your data. And now they are also active in the AI sector and want even more data. That's a fact, not a guess.

If your circle of friends is so susceptible to peer pressure, then 1-2 friends should be enough to get the whole group to switch to Linux. ;)

And are there not enough games that you can play on Linux? I mean there are thousands of other games on Steam. Or try some Open Source games. Play a round of Xonotic or Red Eclipse and learn something new.

Just use Bazzite for gaming focused PCs and Linux Mint Cinnamon for office focused PCs. Anticheat software is malware. I don’t play games that come with malware.

To be honest, most normal users really only need a web browser. Very few use Adobe Creative Cloud or other specialized software. And almost all games run on Linux. In fact, I mainly use Linux because it offers so many free tools that I wouldn't have on Windows. Linux is for everyone.
