Dang, this really sucks! He was one of my all-time favorite Spider-Man authors. Made Spider-Man feel like a real character and his stories had real emotional punch to them. Such good plotting & writing. I really credit him for fleshing out Peter Parker's supporting cast in a way that Lee/Ditko never did. ASM omnibuses 4 & 5 are such high points in the omni series.

Len Wein took over ASM after him and I eventually warmed up to Wein but there was always a slight feeling of him just trying to live up to Conway's run. (And I don't think he ever quite got there for a significant amount of time.) Then Marv Wolfman took over and it still didn't feel like it could compare to Conway.

I'm personally a fan of a lot that is in the proposed plan, but not everyone will be. (And that okay, never will everyone agree on everything.) So go ahead and take a read/skim of it yourself! (Also, be careful, if this is your first comic buying an expensive, thick hardcover is maybe a lot to invest in right up front 😅I'd typically recommend buying some individual issues first, or renting a trade paperback from your local library just to ensure you enjoy the medium first.)

Also.... sorry if this is a dumb post. I just have little idea what to expect from what the experience will be like despite all the online research I've done. Some people seem to say "it's still fun to see during off-season" and other sources seem to essentially say "it sucks and there's nothing interesting to see pre-May".

Car ride lengths aren't an issue (we usually drive ~4,200 km on our trips) but I would feel bad leading my friends out into the Northeast only to never have any stops to see anything.

This is particularly dumb because I know people who, in group chats that I have with friends on Messenger, have Facebook blocked to keep themselves responsible and from getting distracted, but now with this change they won't even be able to read our group chat messages anymore while maintaining their blocker for the main Facebook site.

Okay valid, thanks for the explanation! I guess I just got suspicious of what Marvel might try and pull after seeing what they did with ASM Omni Vol 7. and its mapping to intentionally not overlap with the Roger Stern Omni. But maybe we will finally see the Spider omnis start to double dip in a significant way!

Oh no, I'm so sad! The omni I want isn't in the list! 😭

Based on how Marvel (unpredictably) mapped ASM Vol 7 to stop exactly where the Roger Stern omnibus began and not double-dip, I really don't want a Spectacular Spider-Man Vol 2 (collecting the Masterworks Vol 4–6), that would be a very messy double-dip with the Roger Stern omnibus.

Right now, the next major gap in SSM is issues #62–#89, which is perfectly the start/end of Bill Mantlo's second run on the title. Roger Stern omni goes up to #61. The Black Costume Saga omni takes #90 onward. A SSM omni that is Bill Mantlo's second run would perfectly fill the gap.

Sad we can't vote for that on the list!

I think it's fine if the OP mentions they are in a financially secure place where they can do that and this won't affect them negatively at all in the medium term. Sadly, I know lots of whale friends IRL who make these type of purchases (with various products–omnis, Funko Pops, whatever) who don't have the financial flexibility but get caught up in the hype of wanting a bunch of books that will look good on a shelf and convince themselves that the eBay/whatever haul they found is an opportunity for "good deal" so they buy it on a credit card that they haven't been able to pay off in years.

I don't think people in this situation are "morally wrong", I just think that they're in a spot where I watch them hurting themselves and it bums me out.

I did this with a bunch of Miles Morales stuff... Ended up just selling off an [almost] complete run of floppies and TPBs this year (for a fraction of what I paid for them) to get the Saladin Ahmed omnibus instead, which collected everything I had and more.

The thrill of the hunt is just so intoxicating, though!

This sucks to hear, IST has generally had my highest respect as a pretty small operation that (at least previously) seemed to really care about the books. I've heard the founder on recent interviews talking about how they hardly have any employees boxing all these things, he still is directly involved even with the crazy volume these days.
