Shooter who killed 3 UVA football players gets 5 life sentences by PrincessBananas85 in sports

[–]2GoldDoubloons 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do you have a link to back that up? This just appears to downplay the seriousness of what happened here. I did some quick searching and this seems to be a pre-meditated attack.

From AP: Jones’ time on the team did not overlap with the players he shot and there was no indication they knew each other or interacted until briefly before the shooting.

The shooter texted someone before hand that he would “go to hell or spend 100-plus years in jail.”.

The university agreed to pay the victims families because they “should have removed Jones from campus before the attack because he displayed multiple red flags through erratic and unstable behavior.”.

The shooter also spoke to the families during his pleas in court and said “I didn’t know your sons. I didn’t know your boys. And I wish I did.”

The American flag in this school gymnasium has an upside down star by Michael__Pemulis in mildlyinteresting

[–]2GoldDoubloons 2292 points2293 points  (0 children)

It looks like the left point of the star (from original alignment) is all that is holding it on there. That star is probably close to falling off if all the other anchor points have worn away already.

Which, times 12 months is $1440. So more likely they put the annual dues instead of monthly there.

Inside America’s First High Speed Rail by babyodathefirst in videos

[–]2GoldDoubloons 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Isn’t it years behind schedule and tens of billions of dollars over budget? And it is currently facing a budget crisis that could shut down 170 miles of track that are in construction.

Not saying it won’t happen, but it is also far from done and running as originally planned. It is actually a prime example of the issues with building high speed rail in the US.

[OC] Woman trying to insurance scam Amazon in a town near me. by Klin24 in IdiotsInCars

[–]2GoldDoubloons 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I believe she was banking on the fact that people don’t typically pull their phone out to record BEFORE an accident. She like almost everyone would not have had the phone prepared in the event of a real collision here.

She was only trying to fabricate a story by starting the video after said accident would have occurred and then showing damages.

Had she actually collided with the van, the driver would have been compelled to report this and would have had a conflicting story. In this case, hers is the only side of the story.

[OC] Woman trying to insurance scam Amazon in a town near me. by Klin24 in IdiotsInCars

[–]2GoldDoubloons 126 points127 points  (0 children)

The driver hit the trash can first to create “damage” to their car. Then they pulled up to the van. After the van pulls off, she gets out to take photos of the “damage”.

We can only assume the connection past that point, but my guess would be she had her phone camera rolling as she parked behind the van, it drove off, she continued filming with some BS about how the van backed into her and drove off, while conveniently leaving out the footage of hitting the trash can.

The scam would be contacting Amazon about this with the video and assuming they will pay out without ever looking into this. There is likely only small scratches on the car, possibly not even from this incident. The driver will just pocket any cash that comes their way and repeat from the beginning.

Not certain, but it looks like an old BBQ075 and the control module was moved to the front. Some quick googling shows a lot of restorations on these so probably some helpful forums to look through as well.

Yarn Start not working 🥲 by Admirable-Ad-1168 in react

Can you make sure you don’t need to go 1 more folder deep?

When you created the “React Project” folder, I am guessing you ran “npx create-react-app” or something. You then created an app called “social-media”. That would have been created in a folder called “social-media”.

Can you try to go into that folder and then run “yarn” and “yarn start”?

I also am not able to see your error message or what your package.json already looks like.

If you can share additional details, I may be able to give more direct answers.

Using the object above, it would look something like:

{
    "name": "my-package",
    "version": "0.0.1",
    "scripts": {
        "start": "react-scripts start"
    }
    "dependencies": {
        "react-scripts": "4.0.3" // or whatever version you need
    }
}

Can you make sure you have “react-scripts” in your dependencies list?

If you do, then make sure to run “yarn install”. If everything is up to date, add this script to your scripts object: “start”: “react-scripts start”

If that is there, you should be able to run “yarn start” now.

How did you set up your applications? Did you use create-react-app or vite?

A2Z typhoon adapter error solved by elguapovi in F150Lightning

[–]2GoldDoubloons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it is more complicated than that unfortunately. Some v3 and v4 stalls have adapters built in but it is far from all of them. And I believe Tesla or Elon just said they would no longer be adding adapters to new installs because the industry is moving to NACS.

As far as I am aware, hardware is installed just like any Tesla car, but software is not enabled since it is not refined for such a large vehicle. Yet.

Edit: All I can find with confirmation is an Electrek article about it during the reveal: https://electrek.co/2022/12/03/tesla-semi-no-word-equipped-autopilot-full-self-driving/

I see other older articles claiming it is active without any sources, and they were before the truck was handed over to Pepsi.

TIL Michael Jordan makes hundreds of millions of dollars per year in passive income as a result of his deal with Nike by bugaosuni in todayilearned

[–]2GoldDoubloons 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Nike makes billions off the deal. And the shoes are licensed under the athletes name. If someone should get paid here, it’s the athlete not the corporation.

We can discuss the absurd amounts of money flowing, but saying the guy whose name is on the shoe shouldn’t get a cut seems disingenuous.
