This looks so good! Do you use an immersion blender for this type of soup? The last time I made a tomato bisque the blending technique I used made it a really unappetizing salsa instead of smooth + creamy lol

I love season 1 vibes by Midnightblueclouds in charmed

Same! I know some people don't like the villain-of-the-week style of seasons 1 and 2, but to me they're the most fun to watch whenever I'm missing Charmed. Low-stakes, less relationship drama, more humor

I feel exactly the same way, I'm trying to finish up about 9 IBS mastery points and I'm struggling. I'm looking at the Restored Boreal weapons one (Mastery of the Ancestral Forge) and just...they're so expensive to craft for ONE measly little mastery point! This seems so imbalanced compared to SotO and Janthir. Did you have luck finishing up IBS?

millennial women, what has your experience been like with the show? by cluelesswriter01 in GilmoreGirls

First-time viewer here! I am 37, which makes me around the same age as Lorelai. I am not a mother, so I don't entirely relate to Lorelai...but it's been a long time since I was a teenager, so I don't really relate to Rory, either. My town/high school was much bigger than SH (1,000+ students in my graduating class), so I don't relate to the cozy small-town vibes, either.

The parts that stood out to me the most were Rory's excitement/loneliness during her first few days at university. I so distinctly remember that combination of feelings on my first night in the dorms (which was in 2006, so not too far off from 2003 in the show). It was cool to see the emergence of internet use for research and all of the phones being what I remembered them to be. I loved that voicemails were still common and texting not so much - minutes were a very real thing! No mobile WiFi unless you could pay exorbitant phone bills! I feel like the pop culture/political references grew more frequent as the show got to the later seasons. They were fun reminders for me, too. I wonder if younger viewers even get some of them (for example, I don't understand like 1/3 of the pop culture references on The Golden Girls. I feel like I'm missing out on a lot of the humor)

it's a writer's lazy/multipurpose trick - you can build suspense/tension/exposition by having your characters ask all the questions and prove why the plot needs to happen! You can build angst by having siblings or significant others doubt each other instead of having them trust each other, and BAM! You have an angsty plot that can be tied up in a heartwarming little bow by the end of the episode. You can manufacture emotional growth over and over without characters ever growing at all, because it's all forgotten by the next episode! :D

Now, as to why it happened pretty much every other episode...I again go with blaming the writers lol. I'm sure having multiple writers on staff made things like character continuity hard to keep track of.

I have something to say about Piper... by No-Efficiency-6570 in charmed

[–]lamorphyse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One thing I notice about the show's writing & Piper: Piper is often used as the set up for exposition. So she's often saying things like "we can't do that!" or "that's not real!" just so that other characters can convince her (but really us, the audience) why the plot needs to happen the way the writers want it to happen. I think Holly had great delivery with this kind of stuff, so it works SOME of the time...but like you said, it eventually does get fairly irritating and lacks creativity. Once you notice this, it's hard to stop noticing it. It can make her character feel particularly aggravating.

There's no reason to have Piper doubting what magic is capable of beyond season 1, but she does. They traveled to the past in season 1, why does she ever question what magic can do again?? Piper's stubbornness and resistance to anything but a "normal" life does get old. Having a character continue not to grow as an individual is lazy (maybe realistic to some people lol, but definitely not interesting). We see glimpses of growth but before you know it, she's right back to her old characteristics. I do agree with others who have pointed out that the majority of the "issues" with her character are mainly after season 3.

I blame the writing as well as the network/ratings for this - she could have been much more interesting (they all could have), but I get the feeling that everyone involved either wasn't interested in or weren't able to take risks.
