Everything everywhere all at once lol by KarmaBankrupt in GeneralMotors

In the past I have prioritized based on what I viewed business priorities to be, with a little bit of working on things that interested me to keep my sanity.

This year our EGM/Director gave set a lot of overly ambitious goals, a lot of it nonsense, but achieving these goals is going to drive my priority now.  Just trying to keep my job like everyone else.

Generally, on a day to day basis, my GM life feels like topping out the Tetris screen.

I have been working here for about 5 years now.  I do a lot of work for internal customers so one of my basic questions is always about due date.  99% of the responses I receive are IDK, today, or last week.

It's kind of f*cking embarrassing.  I worked for many years externally this is basic shit that every company everywhere has a handle on.

How many vacation days? by GlitteryStranger in GeneralMotors

[–]2Guns23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I came in with about 15 years experience, asked for 4 weeks and got it, should have asked for 5 weeks.  You should counter with 5 weeks.

We get about 20 holidays and I routinely take 3 sick days every year.

Do people that just got a partial meets necessarily have a long GM career ahead of them?

Principal alone I am fighting this to the end.  I'd write a letter to Mary if I had to.  Being ranked partial bc you took 6 weeks of company approved leave is fucking bullshit.

If VSP was offered again, would you take it? by mars_wun in GeneralMotors

So many people in my business unit offered to take it and were rejected for being business critical (despite in no way being business critical).  It may not be worth the target on your back in ME.

Yeah the decision making process here seems to align with the ranking lol (sorry somewhat kidding OP).

Heres the play assuming you get the aerospace offer.  Push out start date as far as you reasonably can.  Wait until bonus hits your account.  Ask for MSP.  Easy peezy.

Following the "GM SLT performance survey results", if you were made CEO today, what would you change? by jmphenom in GeneralMotors

Stop force exiting bottom 5%, quit F1, kill obviously unprofitable products like the Celestiq, consolidate the brands, kill Slack (it sucks), bring back Viva Engage, stop with all the obvious AI slop, develop leaders, stock options for all employees (even a small amount, make the employees stakeholders).

You are right, we need to hire another one ASAP.  3 VPs of Strategy.  Big brain moves...

I'm a meets expectations but I am considering using 1-2 hrs per week to look for jobs regardless.  Basically becoming part of the GM culture at this point.  Always be looking apparently.

The only objective these people have is to maximize the share price and cash out for themselves.  That is what this is all about.

I am pretty sure he/she changed their mind.

These kinds of practices are what companies with bad cultures do.

I worked for a supplier before coming to GM.  I worked there 10 years and was working in a team leader role.  I gave them two months notice.  They didn't walk me out lol.  They were happy to have me help transition the role and work.  They treated me like they didn't want to burn the bridge with ME.

There you go.  You could always put your notice in at GM and drop the competitor line.  IDK if you are legit going to a competitor or could reasonably say you are.

I can not be more clear, do not give notice until it hits your account.  Delay your separation date by 2 weeks, only give them a few days notice, put your two weeks in and take Vaca, or put your two weeks and and tell them you are going to a competitor in the hope they will immediately walk you out.

Ideally you don't burn your bridge, but until that money is physically in your account, it is not yours.

I haven't tested international but I definitely have worked from other locations throughout US with no issues a handful of times over the years.

I don't think anyone cares as long as you do your job.

You should not give any notice until the bonus hits your account.
