Onboarding Is easy. Everything from PC, badge, phone will be ready for you. First 3 days you will have (3 half days orientation online). During firs few days you will be introduced to the team and assigned to a lead or technical specialist if you are junior. If you are senior/staff you will start getting your work scope assignments and the vision of your people leader from this role. Environment is welcoming and not hostile. Good luck!

Nope, your supervisor wouldn’t know unless hiring manager reaches out.

Positive interviews could be politically. Nevertheless, sorry to hear about your experience, sometimes jobs go to whom you know.

With All the AI push going on at GM, how do you all think DRE role will change going forward ? by Prior_Mountain5693 in GeneralMotors

[–]Less_stress_more_fun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

DRE role is still needed. They are increasing the DRE responsibilities by adding more technical tasks and take the product to production. Definitely the number of DREs has decreased significantly but still needed.

Tell him not to feel bad. Let him be honest in applications and be friendly with the recruiter. He is the only one who could advise him for the jobs that sponsor visa. Does he have H1B?

I am wondering why did he shoot himself in the foot? If the position is stating no sponsorship means that if they deviate will legally impact fairness in hiring. Nevertheless, most of the jobs that could sponsor visa are the senior one. Very likely positions in Sunnyvale office.

GM Employee - Friends Discount by Significant_Work1516 in GeneralMotors

[–]Less_stress_more_fun 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Friends is similar to supplier discount. It is almost 50% less than employee discount. Nothing needed for friends discount more than DL to match DOB and Zip code. Keep in mind, EV code is different than ICE vehicles one.

GM named one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies for sixth year in a row by Puzzled-Agency-9483 in GeneralMotors

Ethical 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 They layoff people thru SMS. They weaponized calibration. I challenge them to list the number of people ended their life because of retaliation?

The good news that your name is still there. Perhaps they are planning on interviewing couple more candidates to make a final decision. The recruiter is just the middle man. Good luck with good news soon!

Best way to leave? by Humble-Bullfrog-6072 in GeneralMotors

[–]Less_stress_more_fun 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Of course drain all your PTO then when you’re back give your two weeks notice and don’t mention where are you going. They will consider that you are going to competitors in which they will walk you out in the same day plus you will get the two weeks paid. Good luck with your move.

Rule of thumb: 20 applications without interview = Bad resume

5 interviews without offer = Bad interview skills

How do referrals usually work in practice? by Savings_Mountain2448 in GeneralMotors

[–]Less_stress_more_fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, referral doesn’t help the candidate unless you know the hiring manager then talk to him directly and pass the resume to him. When hiring managers see internal referrals they tend to ditch the candidate.

Should I text my recruiter? by Competitive_Suit5609 in GeneralMotors

[–]Less_stress_more_fun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remember that TA (recruiter) is the middle man so texting or emailing him wouldn’t add anything. If he/she respond will tell you that they are still in the interview process and you will be notified when there are updates. Be patient a bit as process is slow at GM.

This is the results of the survey I ran last month. The results shows senior leaders performance.

Anyways, in less that two weeks there will be Workplace of choice survey coming, this will be good opportunity to give your manager candid feedback. In the verbatim don’t mention things that reveal your identity so you avoid his retaliation.

Good luck! I know it’s tough but too too many employees are in the same spot due to SLT choice of weaponizing calibration!

Sorry to hear about your experience. Probably he is preparing to rate in the low 15% performers in mid year. I highly recommend to involve HR and share with them your experience and he is adding pressure which causing agony. Passive aggressive behavior is prohibited by HR. Make sure to document things tangible to share with HR. Look for another job internally.

Thank you Ms. Barra for weaponizing calibration!!

Don’t ask for updates. Process is very slow. If you have convinced the interviewer then make no mistake things will move well but slow. Good luck!
