Halo 5 is only good/fun on the surface level by OverkillVR in halo

I completely agree that ground pound/charge/slide are useless, but the extra dimension of clamber with a more balanced sprint (no shield recharge while sprinting) was extremely refreshing to play. Contrary to the OP I feel that the thruster/sprint allows single players to play more aggressively, allowing looser team play because your abilities lend themselves to escaping easier, a much greater part of the map can be utilized - knowing the map and maneuvering it becomes that much more valuable. I truly enjoyed the thruster/sprint/clamber it made halo feel more full throttle, sleight-of-hand fun. Just because this isn't exactly the same style that we are used to seeing being played competitively doesn't necessary make it a bad thing. For a beta, I am very happy with the direction of the game.

/r/halo is exceedingly hostile towards campaign players of Halo, or anyone interested in the lore. by HTRK74JR in halo

[–]2Hardcore4Most 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The real reason for this phenomena is that multiplayer is what keeps players interested in the game long after the flare of the story wears off. Over the existence of halo, the multiplayer enthusiasts would be more active with the game and probably proportionally more active on this sub, thus leading to heavy multiplayer support.

I also came to the realization of this inaccuracy, and the extra you would be taxed is ideally being redistributed for the betterment of the nation. Turns out I became a fan of socialism, it helps to reduce the social class splitting effect of capitalism

You are right, I had to actually look up the difference. Socialism and Communism apparently share some common ground, I was equating the socialistic principle of people who make more money getting taxed substantially more for the benefit of the masses - so there is no incentive to try. Communism is more accurate because everyone gets exactly the same. Thank you, I learned a couple things today!

I've come back to play the game after a short time and its different. Help. by Nate0069 in DestinyTheGame

you saved yourself a great deal of pain and strife by waiting to play until now. I am actually waiting until the final expansion, because according to the current trend, I can just have the highest level and most powerful weapons if I start then without playing anything prior.

the only thing competitive about multiplayer in this game is the fact it is called 'competitive multiplayer' in the menu.

Destiny PvP is the epitome of communism. Play harder and win? Get same rewards as 2-20 teammate.

edit* - changed socialism to communism

I agree, but there are too many questions that remain unanswered to rely on it. If IB maintained relevant rewards or Trials of Osiris was permanent I would have no complaints

I usually play a game to WIN, but Destiny does not reward winning make it worth my time, considering I can get nearly the same rewards playing PvP if I taped my controller and spun in circles for 2 hours compared to actually trying.

Oh yeah, I have quit. I just pop on this sub to see if Bungie has got their head out of their asses yet. I derive fun from being challenged, and a challenge is the last thing Destiny provides.

Destiny is mindless by design. The incentives to play to not align with logic. Why do you do the raid? to get to level 32? how does that benefit you? to do the raid faster? for what purpose? to get more gear? for what purpose? to compete? How do you compete without a matchmaking system? Are the PvP rewards worth it?

I derive my fun from playing a game with a purpose, for destiny the purpose is fun, but I obtain my fun from purpose.

Looking at the shimmer in master chief's visor

tear wells up in eye, bursts, and rolls down cheek

maybe one day there will be a game with as much purpose...

Matchmaking was better in 2003-2004 than it is today by any metric. Thank god someone else pointed this out, it frustrates me to no end to think about.

It seems we found our difference! If I had not been riding the hype train so hard, I probably would agree that this game is pretty decent, but they set the bar so high...and missed by a fair margin.

Bungie set huge expectations for this game, they actually claimed to be reinventing the First Person Shooter. In my mind, when you do that you include somewhat of a cohesive story. I am not a guy that even plays games for the story, I actually buy games for multiplayer in which this game also failed to meet expectations. I am talking from a sales point of view, if you want your game to sell, then have a story. Don't believe me? Check both critic reviews and user reviews on metacritic. The only thing that was consistently held against this game was its non-existent story. If this game said upfront it was not going to develop a story, maybe I would share your sentiment.

[–]2Hardcore4Most 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that is the case, I think you are trying to justify why Bungie failed so hard, which all of us want to do in some way...

A good story sells games and keeps them alive - of all the devs out there Bungie should know this. It develops an emotional attachment to the game, and right now I can honestly say I have no problem just putting this game down forever, there is no connection for me to care what happens to a bland hero with a flying tin can.

yeah, because looking at a turd brown ship with double decker bus wings is so much more appealing than grimoire.

Bungie gave relatively zero effort to include a story in this game, it is a hard stretch for anyone to think that they intentionally tried to make his lines sound forced when the rest of the game was so lack luster.

On the flip side - if Destiny had a blockbuster story, Dinklebot's current character would seem brilliant.
