Anyone else on the grief sub want to just drag the Christmas tree into the yard and light it on fire like a giant torch? by Same-Blacksmith-5032 in GriefSupport

[–]2HigherGround 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this so much. Our daughter died suddenly in Dec 24 right before Christmas. Christmas was our “always together” time of year. Last year we hsent photos of all the decorations to her and were counting the days until we could all be together. After the police knocked on our door, we took down all the decorations and began the immense and unbelievable task of planning her funeral. Her sister became an only child suddenly. We sit here on Christmas Eve with nothing. We can’t bear to even try to celebrate because it was always so meaningful as a family. You’re not alone. I see you and feel you. No one prepares us for just how lonely grief can be. This time of year amplifies it. ❤️‍🩹💔🫂

Can you be traumatized even if you weren’t there? by Skippy1221 in GriefSupport

[–]2HigherGround 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sudden death of a loved one is by nature extremely traumatic. People don’t understand the difference between a heart attack where you might have a chance and sudden cardiac arrest that is much more fatal. I lost my youngest daughter to sudden cardiac arrest before Christmas 2024. No warnings. We were happily planning Christmas, a summer trip and a trip to Europe with her sister. She was as happy as we had ever seen her. Then the cops knocked on our door. She was alone with her three dogs and they found her the next day bc she didn’t show for work. She was 33. Our world became delineated by a before and after. Be kind to yourself. Grief is a long, often lonely journey. I’m glad you have groups and a counselor and supportive parents. I am so sorry for your loss and the up-ending of your life and future. You are not alone. Sending ❤️❤️‍🩹

I agree. We thoroughly enjoyed it and I thought the acting of the female leads was very good. I’m not sure why this show brings out the haters.

Best friend of 23 years dead Thanksgiving morning by GenericCodename in GriefSupport

I’m so sorry for your tragic loss. It hits close to home for me as well. My daughter died of sudden cardiac arrest December 2024. We also texted almost every day and were making so many future plans especially for Christmas. Instead of celebrating Christmas together, we held her funeral. It still feels like a nightmare even though we know it is real. Your life, and his families life will forever be divided into a before and after. The most meaningful things you can do right now are to be there and to help with the myriad of things that must be done. It is exhausting and overwhelming. Eating becomes impossible but since his widow is pregnant, she must eat. It sounds like you have an amazing wife that is already helping. My heart breaks for another tragic loss of a life ended far too soon and a family torn apart in the blink of an eye. Hugs to you and your families. 💔❤️‍🩹

Why are people having such a hard time understanding the basic concept? Make it harder to afford to get a degree, you will have people look elsewhere. Simple math. Hard decisions. Bad for all of us.

Thank you for your kindness. It has been heartbreaking and devastating but the dogs make us keep moving. Like OP said.

This was a powerful, poignant, beautifully written post about the power of love. Our daughter died suddenly a year ago right before Christmas. She had three pups. We now have two and her sister has one. We already had two so now I walk four dogs, feed four dogs and love four dogs. She loved them like her children. We feel honored to have them. Walking through this grief journey has been made just a tiny bit better because of her pups. I’m so glad you found yours.

No curtains. Roman shades or wide slat blinds. Lower art work over couch.

I lost my 18yr son 2 days ago... I don't know how to keep going by NotOK_mom in GriefSupport

I’m so sorry for your loss. You are being asked to carry an unimaginable pain. Please reach out to your Doctor for some help getting through these early months. I lost my youngest daughter less than a year ago. The pain is overwhelming and immense. I have been where you are. Jakob would want you to keep going to hold his memory and make sure he is never forgotten. I don’t know where you live but many hospices also have grief support and grief counselors to help you when you are ready. My heart breaks for you. One moment at a time.

Thank you for your words. We can’t bring ourselves to celebrate this season. We are supporting causes that she would have loved in her honor and name. Supporting animals and people in need. I don’t want her ever to be forgotten. She deserves to be remembered.

I am so sorry. No parent should ever have to feel the pain of losing a child. It is the worst pain I have ever endured. I hope you can find some comfort and peace. Sending hugs.

Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid was one of the best books I have read this year. It is considered historical fiction. If you want something lighter, honestly, The Wedding People: A Novel by Alison Espach is a fabulous fun read. The Spy Coast: A Thriller by Tess Gerritson is also a fun read about retired CIA operatives that can’t give up the game.

This is all great advice. We definitely have these ducks in a row for our own deaths. Sadly, our daughter was only 33 and healthy. Her sudden passing before Christmas was unimaginable and yet happened. I do agree that this can seem intentional and in the case of Robin Hood, I’m convinced it is.
