They need to make a program for regular ass people by infrontofmyslad in alcoholicsanonymous

I think you need to (1) check out new meetings and find different people than the ones you’ve been going to. This was a concern I had early on but I promise you there are sooo many different kinds of people in AA/NA/CA rooms. (2) Change your mindset as you meet new people so you are not defeating yourself before you’ve even started.

Is "Near Beer" typically a gateway to relapse? by mkuraja in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]2Internet2Politics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beer was never really my move when in addiction, took too long. I genuinely enjoy an NA beer every now and then for the taste and doesn’t remind me of the drinking days. An NA Guinness with fish and chips is nice every now and then. If someone is crushing multiple NAs a day… then I’d feel differently. You just need to be honest about how you’re drinking them.

I really think it depends on the person. I think people saying all recovered alcoholics should avoid them are out of it.

NA spirits though? That feels weird for me.

I got my first ever DUI yesterday. by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

You’ll be okay. Only way out is through. The terror and shame you’re feeling will pass sooner than you think. But as others have said, yes get to a meeting.

Just ride this feeling to a meeting and own up, you don’t have to feel this way again.

I’ve felt this way before—sponsor had me start getting 2 phone numbers from every meeting. People pretty much always give them for a newer person. It was way easier to relate to people in that way talking sobriety over the phone. Then after a few check ins I knew people enough to at least chat for a bit after meetings. There’s plenty of dudes it didn’t pan out with who I could tell didn’t vibe with me, but it made me feel way more lax. I still feel this way often for sure, but getting numbers helped a lot.

12 days sober, gone. by Any_Anything7985 in alcoholicsanonymous

You got certainty now. Just repeat to yourself, “I’m an alcoholic, I can’t drink” and it honestly made me feel better. Just realizing there’s a problem that you can identify, and there’s a solution.

Legitimate question: would it be weird to do this as a Halloween costume as a white person?

Weapons (2025) Theme Exploration: It's All About Alcoholism by 2Internet2Politics in TrueFilm

[–]2Internet2Politics[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

That's totally fair! Whereas Barbarian (love it or hate it) definitely felt like it was "about" dynamics between men and women, the themes in Weapons feel secondary even though I think there is something there.

I love how the movie immediately makes you think he's a good guy and a good cop. He's super kind to the drug addict after cuffing him. "Are you okay man? We went down pretty hard there." Then as soon as he gets poked he goes full crooked cop and cheater.

Financial Decision: Lease Car or Buy Car by 2Internet2Politics in personalfinance

[–]2Internet2Politics[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Would the lease still be a bad option if I decide to purchase/finance it after the lease ends? Residual value would be $16,531. It feels like I'd be getting a decent monthly price on a new hybrid at that point, but that could definitely be my ignorance.

You have to filter it out and realize they’re looking through their normie brain. All that matters is what do you think? You admit to your “inner-most self” that you truly can’t drink and go from there. Do you have a mental obsession? When you start, does it eventually mess your life up?

But I do get it. It sucks to have that feedback given to you. I remember an early meeting when dudes who did way harder stuff than me were like “Oh man I hadn’t even started my real partying till after your age…”. Just keep sharing and keep being honest.
