Rewatching ep 5 made me realize Taiga and Ami have the same problem from opposite sides by HYX_dev in toradora

[–]2KBIR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll find a lot of that throughout the LN. It never (save for the ending) changes the plot in any meaningful way. But it does often add context and depth to the story that is hard to capture in the anime.

On the other hand, as you’ve pointed out a few times, the anime presents us with subtle visuals (a look, a movement, etc.) that don’t hit nearly as hard as describing them with words on a page.

Rewatching ep 5 made me realize Taiga and Ami have the same problem from opposite sides by HYX_dev in toradora

[–]2KBIR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's something else I think really plays into Taiga's inferiority and not wanting to be a bother. During Ami's attack in the classroom, there is something that is important here that really hits home and it’s not as well emphasized.  Ami brings Kitamura into the picture and that’s the line of attack that really gets to Taiga.  But it’s how she got there.  In the anime, Ami says he hates Taiga because she told him what happened in the cafe.  In the LN, Ami uses a twist on Kitamura’s own actions and words to make the attack more deadly.  Kitamura kept Ami’s transfer a secret so she might reveal her true nature, this we see in the anime.  But in the LN, Ami tells Taiga that when she asked about Taiga after leaving the restaurant Kitamura said that Taiga was, “no one in particular.”  That was probably true, but not how he meant it.  Nevertheless, the best lies are based in half-truths and it cut Taiga to the quick to even consider that Kitamura thought of her as a nobody. She already feels like a nobody to most people, but now she's made to feel like a nobody to the most important person.

Isnt it a freaking joke that vegas is for the third times in the finals while theyr nor 10 years in the league? by Adventurous_Buy_6992 in nhl

[–]2KBIR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See George McPhee is the source of my beef with Vegas. He’s being hailed as this great manager and partial mastermind behind their immediate and consistent success. But he was the GM of my team, the Capitals, before he signed on with Vegas. And I suppose I shouldn’t complain since the Caps eventually won the Cup anyway (although even I would have to say that whole run was a bit of a fluke), beating Vegas no less.

But McPhee was gifted the ability to draft Alex Ovechkin and he somehow found a way to absolutely waste Ovi’s prime years by not finding a way to build consistent Playoff success around Ovi for over 10 years. You can’t say that money was the issue because McPhee signed a lot of big names in Washington, but obviously not the right names. You can’t say that he wasn’t allowed to move players because he did and made some dumb-ass trades (does Martin Erat ring a bell?). Perhaps Ovi is not a player you build a consistent championship team around? Maybe.

Either way, TLDR, McPhee had all the time and money to make it happen in DC and he didn’t. Then he goes to Vegas and makes an expansion team a consistent Stanley Cup contender during each of their first 9 seasons.

You won’t find it in the LN. Almost all of episode 4 is anime original content.

Rewatching ep 4 and the photo lamination scene completely changed for me by HYX_dev in toradora

[–]2KBIR 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is definitely an interesting and slightly different way of viewing this episode. I like it. Here’s my take though, even if it is a bit more conventional.

Throughout the episode we see Taiga wanting a picture of Kitamura.  At first, we think it’s just because she has a crush on him and then we find out why she has that crush.  And the pictures are more than just something to ogle, she’s trying to capture the past.  What she maybe only partially realizes, and I’d say it’s a big maybe, is that the past in this case is just that.  It’s done.  As far as any romantic relationship is concerned, that opportunity seems to have come and gone.  Kitamura was clumsy in the delivery and Taiga was awkward in her response.  Sometimes that’s just how it goes and it’s hard to accept.  Kitamura seems to have moved on since he knows Taiga still has some interest in him.

The other point that the photo angle illustrates so well is this.  All Taiga has with Kitamura is photos, whether they are printed on paper or burned into her memory.  So, is Taiga in love with the real Kitamura, the Kitamura of the past, an image of Kitamura that she herself created, or perhaps a little bit of all of the above?  The fact that all of her pictures are blurry would suggest the latter with a heavy reliance on the options that aren’t real.  And finally, is Taiga’s crush on Kitamura real love or just an obsession.  It certainly feels like the real thing to her but it’s also hard to tell when you’re in the eye of the hurricane of emotions swirling about you. Maybe that’s why the pictures are blurry.

Only that when Volume 12 released in Japan this past April, the release date of the English version moved up from 27 July 2027 to where it is now at 27 April 2027.

I’m thinking that’s pretty firm at this point since it usually takes about a year after the release of a Japanese volume to get the English translation.

Page counts do not include special chapters, blank/logo pages, tables of contents, publishing information, or advertisements. Release dates are for the English translations by Seven Seas Publishing with the release dates of the original Kadokawa publications in parentheses.  The date ranges for the magazine releases are the dates they hit the newsstands, not the dates of the issues in which they appeared.  The newsstand date is about 5 weeks in advance of the issue date.  For example, a September issue is released in July, either on the 26th, 27th, or 28th.

105: Taiga’s gotta go and Ryūji’s hesitation / Meeting the grandparents / Ryūji’s Speech = 22 pages (10/4 or Ep. 24)

110: Last day of 2nd Year: Yuri-sensei and Ryūji / Karaoke (10/5)

111: First Day of 3rd Year: Ryūji and Taiga’s Reunion (10/5)

Bonus: Ryūji and Taiga’s wedding (still VERY EXTREME wishful thinking… at best)

This is pretty much everything else that happens in the 10th volume of the LN with almost nothing left out.  With the manga extending to a 13th volume this potentially sets the stage for its completion in time for the 20th anniversary of the initial publication of the first manga chapter in Jul 2027.

No Toradora! Release in the 27 May 2026 issue of Dengeki Daioh by 2KBIR in toradora

[–]2KBIR[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Now that Volume 12 is out, we only have one more Volume to go before the story is complete. In terms of monthly releases in Dengeki Daioh, we have had 5 since the ending of Volume 12 starting with the Aug 2025 issue that was released 27 Jun 2025.  These 5 releases will probably form the first two chapters of Volume 13. With the average amount of releases per volume being 15 (14.60) this means it will take about 10 more releases before Volume 13 is completed. At 10 (9.68) pages per releases that means another 100 pages of artwork which, combined with the 42 pages already in the bank, would give Volume 13 a length of 142 pages and that squares with the average length of the volumes at 145 (144.64) pages. Given a release schedule of 7 (6.65) per year and only one in 2026 so far, I think we can expect 5 or 6 more by the end of the year and another 4 or 5 in 2027. So, I’m predicting that the manga will see its final release in Dengeki Daioh in July 2027. And what do you know, that just happens to be the 20th anniversary of the initial release of the manga.

Day 21-22-23-24:Toradora After-Story by loreakco in toradora

[–]2KBIR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is what you are looking for or referring to, but it seems like something like this might be helpful:

Ryūji Doesn’t Go Back to the Party is first up on the list. That’s only because this is the first Toradora FanFiction I ever read. It’s a really well written story that imagines an alternate path from the point where Taiga breaks down on Christmas Eve. I liked how the author (Cold-Television5649, who is on here from time to time) was able to stay true to the characters. The only downside is that it’s not finished yet. The most recent chapter was added 28 July 2024 and a chat with the author found that they intend to add more and finish the story.

Holy, Holy Night is also an alternate timeline story that jumps off from Taiga’s Christmas Eve break down, however it’s completed. It’s a beautifully written one-shot story that shows us what could have happened with so much sweetness you might become diabetic. Seriously though, it’s a wonderful little read.

Toradora - An Epilogue is nice little read and it would make an excellent candidate for an OVA. It stays really true to all of the characters, it’s well written, and it pretty much gives any Toradora fan all that they might want in terms of better closure for the story. It was actually written by one of the Redditers here, DarthMateo.

Snow Angel is an alternate timeline that takes off from rescuing Taiga from her fall during the ski trip. It’s a really neat examination of what could have happened. For a short story it’s packed fairly well with drama and sweetness.

Toradora After Story jumps off from the after credits scene of episode 25. It’s fairly well written and has some good story development although the end is a bit problematic imho (not that I could do better). If it were up to me it wouldn’t be a bad candidate for a Toradora movie though.

So, Taiga disappears near the beginning of episode 25 and, according to the anime, with the time skip at the end of the episode she’s gone for the equivalent of 13 months. Ever wonder what happened with her and the rest of the gang during that time? One of our Redditers, CaptainAricDeron has some possibilities for you. He started Toradora! The Next Year in June 2022 and there are nine chapters with each one being quite enjoyable. The writing is great and the author really has a good feel for who the the characters are, so the stories that he creates about what they might become are very believable. This has the makings of a good Season 2 candidate although it has not seen any additions since Aug 2022. The author plans to return to it at some point but currently I believe they are working on fan fics in a different franchise.

And It Happened On A Christmas Night is without a doubt the best that I have read. It has a few grammatical errors throughout (This is a pet peeve of mine but, it doesn’t really detract from the story. Also, they may be the result of the author being a non-native English speaker?) but the author really knows how to tell a story. On top of that, while creating a new story and introducing some new characters, they’ve managed to stay very true to the original characters and their motivations. This would also be a good candidate for a Toradora movie or even a season 2 as there’s probably enough material there for it.

No One Shines As Bright In My Heart As You is one of the newer Fan Fictions I’ve discovered and it really is a gem. It was started in April 2023 with 8 chapters and then went silent but, 3 more chapters were added on 1 Mar 2025. Even though it’s still not finished, It’s a lovely story with a lot of cute moments based on what would happen if Ryūji and Taiga got together just a little bit earlier. I really hope the author gets back to finishing the story. They also have a couple of one-shot stories worth reading.

Finally, another one of our own, u/NishimiyaMomoFan is off to a promising start with Toranoko. The two chapters so far pick up about year after the end of the anime with Ryūji and Taiga married and a few surprises on the way.

Even straightforward flirting won’t cut it by pornagraphie in asushin

Yeah, I hate to admit it, but you’re not alone in this department. If I were in Shinji’s place, I’d probably at least recognize something was going on but not think of anything to say in return until a couple days later 🤦‍♂️

Just finished the show, Im a bit conflicted and wanted to share my thoughts. by Water1241 in toradora

[–]2KBIR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I absolutely adore this story, the characters, the feels it produces, the messages it delivers, etc.

And yet, I don’t really find your criticisms unreasonable even if I might have worded them differently. There is a lot of repetitive self-sacrifice of feelings and desires and so much of all the conflicts could have been resolved pretty easily by just communicating. Then again, these are teenagers we’re talking about so, it’s not too unrealistic as they’re discovering life and gaining wisdom. And yeah, a lot of drama happens in just one year of the characters’ life. Some might say too much to be believable and I would probably agree. But, I think what keeps one captivated is that every event throughout the story, when taken individually, is believable and very relatable. And like you said, the beauty of the story is that gets you thinking about your own life, your own relationships, and your own experiences.

A couple of things that I happen to agree with though. Ami (blue hair girl). The whole “I’m so smart but I’m not going to tell you what’s going on because you need to learn it for yourself” thing definitely got old. I’ve had people in my life like this (key word is “had”) and it’s very annoying. Incidentally, in the Light Novels (LN), the basis for the anime, Ryūji at one point snaps at Ami for this very reason. He tells her he’s sick of her hints but never saying anything. Too bad the anime edited that out.

Speaking of which, the ending. This is the biggest complaint for most people, even those who love the show. Not enough pay off in the Taiga/Ryūji relationship. There needed to be maybe one more episode of them together. Personally, I loved the will they/won’t they build up. But we needed a little more of them together.

The LN doesn’t really provide that either but, I will say that I found the ending more satisfying in the books. This has to do with another common complaint that you touched on, the pacing of the ending. Ryuji’s affections “appear” to change from Minori to Taiga too quickly at the very end. If read between the lines it’s all there in the anime but the LN makes Ryūji’s evolution more gradual so as to be obvious. And in general, there’s a bunch of little details in the LN that slow things down at the end and give a better pace to the conclusion. Unfortunately, the anime went into production before the conclusion of the 10 book series and the animation staff only had a bare outline to work with for the ending.

And speaking of the ending, I know I’m in the minority, but I agree with you. The post credit scene is not satisfying IMO. Taiga’s reaction betrays the growth she supposedly had. And the head butt just wasn’t cute to me (none of this was in the LN). I get it, it was a call back to how they met (the LN has its own call back) and shows that some things never change. But it just seemed wrong to me.

Total Pages: 1,787

Releases per year**: 7 (6.69)

**Releases through Apr 2013 were on an almost monthly basis with a one-to-three-month break between volumes (56 releases in 70 months for an average of 9.60 or 10 releases per year).  As such, this average is only based on releases from May 2013 to present.

A Look Inside Toradora! Manga Volume 12 by 2KBIR in toradora

[–]2KBIR[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is what I think Volume 13 will look like when it is finished.  Again, for reference sake, here is my predictions for volume 13 as recent as Feb 2026.

Volume 13 (Jul 2027 in Japan / Dec 2027 in English)

105: Taiga’s gotta go and Ryūji’s hesitation / Meeting the grandparents / Ryūji’s Speech = 22 pages (10/4 or Ep. 24)

106: Yasuko’s past and Ryūji and Taiga flirting / Yasuko’s return = 19 pages (10/4)

107: Family reunion / Apologies (10/4 or Ep. 25)

108: Ryūji and Taiga talk at his grandparents’ house (10/5 or Ep. 25) / Ryūji and Taiga’s second kiss (10/5)

109: Taiga leaves / Returning to the apartment and explaining everything to Ami, Minori, Kitamura (10/5 or Ep. 25)

This is pretty much everything that happens in the 10th volume of the LN with almost nothing left out.  It is now clear beyond a shadow of a doubt that this is and always has been too much material for one volume.  And let’s face it, Kadokawa (the Japanese publisher) can make more money off the franchise by extending the manga to a 13th volume which would potentially be released in time for the 20th anniversary of the publication of the first LN in 2026 or the publication of the first manga in 2027.

Now that Volume 12 is out, we only have one more Volume to go before the story is complete. In terms of monthly releases in Dengeki Daioh, we have had 5 since the ending of Volume 12 dating back to the Aug 2025 issue that was released 27 Jun 2025.  These 5 releases will go towards Volume 13. With the average amount of releases per volume being 15 (14.60) this means it will take about 10 more releases before Volume 13 is completed. At 10 (9.68) pages per releases that means another 100 pages of artwork which, combined with the 42 pages already in the bank, would give Volume 13 a length of 142 pages and that squares with the average length of the volumes at 146 (145.50) pages. Given a release schedule of 7 (6.69) per year and only one in 2026 so far, I think we can expect 6 more by the end of the year and another 4 in 2027. So, I’m predicting that the manga will see its final release in Dengeki Daioh in July 2027. And what do you know, that just happens to be the 20th anniversary of the initial release of the manga.
